NOTICE\n----------------\nFor all files that are not marked differently:\n\nCopyright Gerlof Langeveld 2007-2024 and licensed under the GPL v2 (or any later version).\n\n\nDEPENDENCIES\n------------\n\nInstall the following packages to be able to build atop (package name\ncan be different depending on the Linux distro):\n\n* zlib-devel    or libz-dev or zlib1g-dev\n* ncurses-devel or libncurses5-dev/libncursesw5-dev\n* glib2-devel   or libglib2.0-dev\n\n\nInstall the following packages to be able to execute atop (package name\ncan be different depending on the Linux distro):\n\n* zlib    or zlib1g\n* ncurses or libncurses5/libncursesw5\n* glib2   or libglib2.0\n\n\nINSTALLING AND USING ATOP FROM TARBALL\n--------------------------------------\n\nFor interactive use, it is sufficient to install ATOP with the command\n(as root):\n\n\tmake install\t\t(systemd based)\n\n\t\tor\n\n\tmake sysvinstall\t(System V init based)\n\nFor automatic logging in compressed binary format, see the\ndescription in the manual-page.\n\n\nNETWORK-RELATED COUNTERS PER PROCESS/THREAD\n-------------------------------------------\n\nThe kernel module 'netatop' can be downloaded and installed separately\nfrom www.atoptool.nl/downloadnetatop.php\nThis module is optional and can be used to gather network statistics\nper process/thread as described in www.atoptool.nl/netatop.php\n\nAlternatively, the BPF implementation 'netatop-bpf' can be downloaded\nand installed from https://github.com/bytedance/netatop-bpf\n\n\nPROCESS ACCOUNTING WITH PSACCT/ACCT PACKAGE\n-------------------------------------------\n\nPreferably, process accounting should be handled by the atopacctd daemon\nwhich is implicitly installed when installing atop. This daemon takes\ncare that process accounting is only active when at least one atop\nprocess is running. Besides, when process accounting is activated,\natopacctd takes care that the disk utilization is minimal.\nSee the man page of atopacctd for further details.\n\nWhen the psacct or acct package is installed in parallel with the\natop package and you want to enable/start the (ps)acct service for\npermanent process accounting, the atopacct.service refuses to activate\nthe atopacctd daemon to avoid clashes.\nWhen the (ps)acct service is enabled, atop automatically uses the\nprocess accounting file that is used by this package.\nSee also the section PROCESS ACCOUNTING in the man page of atop.\n\n\nOVERVIEW OF RELATED PROGRAMS\n----------------------------\n\nWhen installing atop the following programs are provided:\n\n  atop        - System and process monitor (live and from raw log)\n  atopacctd   - Daemon: handles process accounting records to be used by atop\n  atopgpud    - Daemon: gathers metrics from Nvidia GPUs to be used by atop\n  atopsar     - System activity reports (live and from raw log)\n  atopcat     - Concatenate raw log files and provide raw log information\n  atophide    - Make extractions from raw logs and/or anonymize raw logs\n  atopconvert - Convert raw log to newer version\n\n\nSERVICE ACTIVATION AFTER INSTALLATING PACKAGE\n---------------------------------------------\n\nAfter the package has been installed, be sure that the related services\nare activated.\nTo support handling of terminated processes using process accounting,\nenable the atopacct service:\n\n\tsystemctl enable --now atopacct\n\nNotice that this service should not be enabled when the package\npsacct or acct (depends on the Linux distribution) has been installed\nand enabled. In that case atop uses the daily process accounting file\ncreated via that package.\n\nTo support maintaining daily log files to keep track of long-term analysis\ninformation, enable the atop service and the related timer:\n\n\tsystemctl enable --now atop\n\tsystemctl enable --now atop-rotate.timer\n\n\n\n\nGerlof Langeveld\ngerlof.langeveld@atoptool.nl\n","funding_links":[],"categories":["C","Monitoring","Operation System","Tools","System","Packages"],"sub_categories":["TOPs","Monitoring","C","CLI Tools"],"project_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2FAtoptool%2Fatop","html_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/projects/github.com%2FAtoptool%2Fatop","lists_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2FAtoptool%2Fatop/lists"}
