The codebase is a\nwind-focused fork of [NaluCFD](https://github.com/NaluCFD/Nalu); NaluCFD is developed \nand maintained by Sandia National Laboratories. Nalu-Wind is being actively\ndeveloped and maintained by a dedicated, multi-institutional team from [National\nRenewable Energy Laboratory](https://nrel.gov), [Sandia National\nLaboratories](https://sandia.gov), and [Univ. of Texas Austin](https://utexas.edu).\n\nNalu-Wind is developed as an open-source code with the following objectives: \n\n- an open, well-documented implementation of the state-of-the-art computational\n models for modeling wind farm flow physics at various fidelities that are\n backed by a comprehensive verification and validation (V\u0026V) process;\n\n- be capable of performing the highest-fidelity simulations of flowfields within\n wind farms; and \n\n- be able to leverage the high-performance leadership class computating\n facilities available at DOE national laboratories.\n\nWe hope that this community developed model will be used by research\nlaboratories, academia, and industry to develop the next-generation of wind farm\ntechnologies. We welcome the wind energy community to use Nalu-Wind in their\nresearch. When disseminating technical work that includes Nalu-Wind simulations\nplease reference the following citation:\n\n Sprague, M. A., Ananthan, S., Vijayakumar, G., Robinson, M., \"ExaWind: A multifidelity \n modeling and simulation environment for wind energy\", NAWEA/WindTech 2019 Conference, \n Amherst, MA, 2019.\n\n## Documentation\n\nDocumentation is available online at https://exawind.github.io/nalu-wind/ and is\nsplit into the following sections:\n\n- [Theory manual](https://exawind.github.io/nalu-wind/source/theory/index.html):\n This section provides a detailed overview of the supported equation sets, the\n discretization and time-integration schemes, turbulence models available, etc.\n \n- [Verification manual](https://exawind.github.io/nalu-wind/source/verification/index.html):\n This section documents the results from verification studies of the spatial\n and temporal schemes available in Nalu-Wind.\n \n- [User manual](https://exawind.github.io/nalu-wind/source/user/index.html):\n The user manual contains detailed instructions on building the code, along\n with the required third-party libraries (TPLs) and usage.\n \nAll documentation is maintained alongside the source code within the git\nrepository and automatically deployed to a github-hosted website upon new commits.\n \n## Compilation and usage\n\nNalu-Wind is primarily built upon the packages provided by the [Trilinos\nproject](https://trilinos.org), which in turn depends on several third-party\nlibraries (MPI, HDF5, NetCDF, parallel NetCDF), and YAML-CPP. In addition, it\nhas the following optional dependencies: hypre, TIOGA, and OpenFAST. Detailed\nbuild instructions are available in the [user\nmanual](https://exawind.github.io/nalu-wind/source/user/building.html).\nWe recommend using [Spack](https://spack.io/) package manager to install\nNalu-Wind on your system.\n\n### Testing and quality assurance\n\nNalu-Wind comes with a comprehensive unit test and regression test suite that\nexercise almost all major components of the code. The `master` branch is\ncompiled and run through a regression test suite with different compilers\n([GCC](https://gcc.gnu.org/), [LLVM/Clang](https://clang.llvm.org/), and\n[Intel](https://software.intel.com/en-us/compilers)) on Linux and MacOS\noperating systems, against both the `master` and `develop` branches of\n[Trilinos](https://github.com/trilinos/Trilinos). Tests are performed both using\nflat MPI and hybrid MPI-GPU hardware configurations. The results of the nightly\ntesting are publicly available on [CDash\ndashboard](http://my.cdash.org/index.php?project=Exawind).\n\n### Contributing, reporting bugs, and requesting help\n\nTo report issues or bugs please [create a new\nissue](https://github.com/Exawind/nalu-wind/issues/new) on GitHub.\n\nWe welcome contributions from the community in form of bug fixes, feature\nenhancements, documentation updates, etc. All contributions are processed\nthrough pull-requests on GitHub. Please follow our [contributing\nguidelines](https://github.com/Exawind/nalu-wind/blob/master/CONTRIBUTING.md)\nwhen submitting pull-requests.\n \n## License\n\nNalu-Wind is licensed under BSD 3-clause license.
