auzy\n\n[![Build Status](https://travis-ci.org/alexey-detr/auzy.svg?branch=master)](https://travis-ci.org/alexey-detr/auzy) [![Maintainability](https://api.codeclimate.com/v1/badges/dc7769e214a244cb68aa/maintainability)](https://codeclimate.com/github/alexey-detr/auzy/maintainability) [![Test Coverage](https://api.codeclimate.com/v1/badges/dc7769e214a244cb68aa/test_coverage)](https://codeclimate.com/github/alexey-detr/auzy/test_coverage)\n\nDon't ever get confused when adding session middleware into your project!\n\n## Project features\n\n- Modern ES6 syntax\n- Promise and async/await ready\n- Compatible with many middleware based frameworks (e.g. Express, Restify)\n- Flexible to use any session storage (e.g. Redis, MongoDB)\n- Well documented (JSDoc is in progress)\n- Made as simple as possible\n- Covered with unit tests\n- Covered with functional tests for following frameworks:\n  - [Restify](http://restify.com/)\n  - [Express](http://expressjs.com/)\n  - [koa.js](http://koajs.com/)\n  - [Connect](https://github.com/senchalabs/connect)\n\nIt's all about **auzy**. The Node.js middleware library made to add sessions support.\n\n**The project is ready for use, but it is not tested well yet, so please be careful using it.**\n\n## Quick start\n\n_For full usage examples with specific framework see the [examples directory](https://github.com/alexey-detr/auzy/tree/master/examples)._\n\nInstall auzy and session storage (Redis in this example)\n\n```bash\nnpm install --save auzy auzy-storage-redis\n# or\nyarn add auzy auzy-storage-redis\n```\n\nAdd the middleware into your project\n\n```js\nconst auzyConfig = {\n    session: {\n        // Session name will be used as header name in this example.\n        sessionName: 'X-Session-Token',\n\n        // TTL is a session expiration time in milliseconds.\n        ttl: 60 * 60 * 24 * 30 * 6 * 1000,\n\n        // Contains a logic to fetch user data from database.\n        // Promise is expected as return value, it has to resolve user data.\n        // Resolved user data will be set as req.user for current request.\n        // Or as ctx.state.user in case of Koa framework.\n        loadUser: (sessionData) =\u003e {\n            const query = {_id: new ObjectId(sessionData.userId)};\n            return User.Model.findOne().exec();\n        },\n    },\n};\nconst auzyEnvironment = {\n    storage: 'redis',\n    framework: 'express',\n    transport: 'header',\n};\napp.use(auzy(auzyConfig, auzyEnvironment));\n```\n\n### Login\n\nUse session object inside your login route\n\n```js\nasync (req, res, next) =\u003e {\n    const reqUser = req.body.user;\n    const dbQuery = {\n        email: reqUser.email,\n    };\n    const user = await User.Model.findOne(dbQuery).exec();\n    if (!user) {\n        return next();\n    }\n    await user.validatePassword(reqUser.password);\n    await req.session.authenticate({userId: String(user._id)});\n    res.send({user: req.user.name});\n}\n```\n\n### Logout\n\nTo logout and destroy current session you have to call `destroy()` method\n\n```js\nasync (req, res, next) =\u003e {\n    const user = req.user;\n    if (user) {\n        // It is important to wait the destroying process\n        // so after that line we will be sure that there is nothing\n        // left from a previously authorized user.\n        await req.session.destroy();\n    }\n    // User is already deleted from the request object\n    // so we can safely use it in a general way, it will\n    // be undefined here.\n    res.send({user: req.user});\n}\n```\n\n## Configuration\n\nThere are two things you can specify in the configuration:\n\n- Session handler configuration\n- Environment hints\n\n### Session handler\n\nSession handler is a core of auzy project, which has configuration options described in this section\n\n##### `function receiveSessionId(adapter, sessionName): string`\n\nThe method describes how the sessionId will be fetched from the request.\n\n##### `function sendSessionId(adapter, sessionName, sessionId)`\n\nThe method describes how the sessionId will be put into the response.\n\n##### `sessionName: string`\n\nProperty specifies the session name, which will be passed to `receiveSessionId` or `sendSessionId` methods.\n\n##### `function loadUser(sessionData): Promise`\n\nThe method describes how user will be loaded using `sessionData`. User object itself can be stored into your main application database, e.g. MongoDB. The returned promise should resolve user object fetched from DB. Fetched user will be stored in the request object (or something similar so you will be able to access it in any controller).\n\n##### `function generateSessionId(): string`\n\nThe method describes how the new session ID will be generated. If not specified, the session ID will be Base64 encoded 20 bytes length cryptographically strong pseudo-random data. To generate it auzy uses node's module [crypto](https://nodejs.org/api/crypto.html#crypto_crypto_randombytes_size_callback).\n\n##### `ttl: string`\n\nProperty specifies how long the session data will be valid until expiration. **Value must be specified in milliseconds.**\n\n##### `alwaysSave: boolean`\n\nIf `true` the session data will be saved every time the session is loaded. Can be useful to resave the new user name if it is stored in the session data.\n\n##### `alwaysSend: boolean`\n\nIf `true` the session ID will be send to client in the every response. If `false` the session ID will be send only when `session.authenticate()` is explicitly called.\n\n### Environment hints\n\nEnvironment hints help auzy understand which kind of storage it should use or which framework context it is going to work in.\nSo hint can describe framework or storage.\n\n##### `framework: string`\n\nJust a framework code. Following frameworks are supported for now:\n\n- `restify` — [Restify](http://restify.com/)\n- `express` — [Express](http://expressjs.com/)\n- `koa` — [koa.js](http://koajs.com/)\n- `connect` — [Connect](https://github.com/senchalabs/connect)\n\nIf the framework hint is specified, `receiveSessionId` and `sendSessionId` will get in their first argument adapter object, which actually just a unified way to modify request or response object for hinted framework.\n\n##### `storage: string`\n\nStorage hint specifies which kind of storage will be used to store session data. Following storages are supported now:\n\n- `redis` — Redis [alexey-detr/auzy-storage-redis](https://github.com/alexey-detr/auzy-storage-redis)\n\nIf not specified a native JS object storage will be used. It is non-persistent so any saved session data will be destroyed whenever the server will be restarted.\n\n##### `transport: string`\n\nTransport hint specifies how session ID will be transferred to client or from client. `header` is the only available transport for now. It passes session ID in the HTTP header named as `session.sessionName` (in the example above it was `X-Session-Token`).\n\n## Advanced config example\n\nIf your framework is not supported you can try to configure it with more complex config.\n\n```js\nconst auzyConfig = {\n    session: {\n        // Session name will appear as request and response header name below.\n        sessionName: 'X-Session-Token',\n\n        // TTL is the session expiration time in milliseconds.\n        ttl: 60 * 60 * 24 * 30 * 6 * 1000,\n\n        // Contains logic to fetch session ID from request object.\n        // String with session ID must be returned.\n        receiveSessionId: (req, sessionName) =\u003e req.header(sessionName),\n\n        // Contains logic to send session ID to client via response object.\n        sendSessionId: (res, sessionName, sessionId) =\u003e res.header(sessionName, sessionId),\n\n        // Contains logic to fetch user data from database.\n        // Promise is expected as return value, it should resolve user data.\n        // Resolved user data will be set as req.user for current request.\n        loadUser: (sessionData) =\u003e {\n            const query = {_id: new ObjectId(sessionData.userId)};\n            return User.Model.findOne().exec();\n        }\n    },\n};\nconst auzyEnvironment = {storage: 'redis'};\napp.use(auzy(auzyConfig, auzyEnvironment));\n```\n\n## TODOs and ideas\n\n- [ ] Allow to store any data in the session, not just authorization data.\n- [ ] Various transports or ways to get / pass session IDs from / to client (header, cookie, body?)\n- [ ] MongoDB session storage\n- [ ] Authenticators support to validate credentials (e.g. email password pairs, any kind of tokens) with hashes or other verifiers. In other words it will provide easy to use Facebook login for example.\n- [ ] Made project ready to support things like JWT which use client as a session storage.\n","project_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Falexey-detr%2Fauzy","html_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/projects/github.com%2Falexey-detr%2Fauzy","lists_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Falexey-detr%2Fauzy/lists"}
