monitor various system statistics through a simple web interface. Whether you're a\ndeveloper, a sysadmin, or just curious about how your system is performing, this package makes it easy to access and\nvisualize system metrics.\n\n### Why System Stats Web Interface?\n\nOne would definitely question -- \"why develop another monitoring tool?\"\nWell, there are quite a few tools that I have tried but they either needed some effort to setup or lacked one or more\nfeatures.\n\nWhile there are numerous monitoring tools available for different purposes, I needed a solution that was very simple. A\ntool that's easy to\ninstall, involves almost no effort to set up, and offers a simple and clean web UI for visualizing essential system\nmetrics.\n\nPS: I'd appreciate if someone can point me to some good tools that suit the above stated goal! I'd be happy\nto take a look at it.\n\nThe development of that thought, resulted in a tool that is:\n\n- **Easy To Install:** Install the package using pip and get started with just a few commands.\n- **Has a Web Interface:** Access system statistics through a simple, clean and user-friendly web interface.\n- **Has Real-Time Monitoring:** Monitor CPU usage, memory usage, disk space, and more in real time.\n- **Has Cross-Platform support:** Compatible with various operating systems, including macOS, and Linux.\n\n### For whom is this tool intended?\n\nWhile this tool could be used by anybody who is interested in simple system monitoring, it is best\nsuited for developers or system admins or someone who wants to monitor a headless (remote server/non-windowed mode\nserver) computer over a web interface/web browser.\n\n### Where can I run this?\n\nIt can practically run on any system, and due to its lightweight nature, it can operate on computers with low resource\nspecifications.\n\nSome of the use-cases:\n\n- you can set it up on Docker containers which need to be monitored remotely.\n- if you have multiple on-prem servers in a private network that need monitoring at individual host level, you can host\n  this tool on each server and access it over web interface.\n- you can run it on a Raspberry Pi (potentially?). Although I've not tested the tool on a Raspberry platform 😅\n\nThe possibilities are endless and the tool will evolve over time to get better.\n\n### Features\n\n- List and kill running processes.\n- List processes listening on inet ports.\n- Show hardware metrics - CPU/Memory usage, etc.\n\n### Installation\n\nTo install the package, use the following pip command:\n\n```bash\npip install sys-stats\n```\n\nNote: \n\n\u003e On MacOS, it might fail to install if you do not have `xcode` set up. Please set up xcode using the command `xcode-select --install` and continue with the installation. Meanwhile, I shall find a way to by-pass this step.\n\nPyPI project: https://pypi.org/project/sys-stats/\n\nThen run,\n\n```bash\nsys-stats start\n```\n\nThe process starts up with the following logs:\n\n```text\nINFO:root:Starting web server on 0.0.0.0:8070\nINFO:root:Web UI at: http://0.0.0.0:8070\n(8606) wsgi starting up on http://0.0.0.0:8070\n```\n\nNow, access the web interface at http://localhost:8070\n\nTo specify a different port, run:\n\n```bash\nsysstats start --port 8055\n```\n\nCheck the installed version of sys-stats:\n```bash\nsys-stats version\n```\n\n### Screenshots\n\nListing processes\n![](https://i.imgur.com/pdHLGi6.png)\n\nList of processes listening on inet ports\n![](https://i.imgur.com/8424Kt4.png)\n\nResource utilisation\n![](https://i.imgur.com/VabIFk9.png)\n\n### Development\n\n#### Requirements\n\n- macOS or Ubuntu or any other *nix distros\n- Python 3.8+\n\n#### Building from source\n\nRun:\n\n```bash\nbash build.sh\n```\n\nThis creates a wheel distribution under `dist` directory.\n\n#### Areas of improvement\n\n- Cache the data in memory to record resource utilisation for a given time period (for 30 mins, or more) - useful for\n  plotting resource utilisation graphs.\n- Security measures/user authentication\n- UI improvements - look and feel and slickness\n- Sorting table data by fields\n- Settings view\n- Ability to start the server in background (-d/--daemon mode)\n- Ability to pass an external JSON/YAML configuration file to configure bind address, logging path, etc.\n- Support for cluster setup (may be?)\n\n#### Get Involved\n\nContributions are most welcome!\nWhether it's reporting a bug, proposing an enhancement, or helping with code - any sort of contribution is much\nappreciated.\n\n### License\n\nThe project is released under the MIT License.
