Term-chat\n## Lightweight terminal chat server and client\n\nTerm-chat is a simple server and client npm package that allows users to send and receive messages\nin the terminal. It can be opened as an interactive chat client, or used as a command to send a single message.\n\n**Perhaps the most useful feature is the ability to pipe in messages to quickly\nsend ssh-keys, tokens, urls, or whatever you need to your coding buddies and teammates.**\n\n### Installation and Usage\n```bash\nnpm install -g term-chat\n\n# Server Mode\ntermchat --server\n\n# Client Mode\ntermchat --host http://localhost\n\n```\nRun `termchat --help` for all options.\n\n### Default Server\nWhile this project remains small, I am running a default server at `http://alexrowe.net`. \nJust run `termchat` to connect! (Don't post any sensitive information...)\n\n### Example Output\nExample output (real output is colored!):\n```\n$ termchat -h localhost\nconnected to http://localhost:2797/\nchannel: general\nusers in channel: punky, alex\nuser connected: alex\n\nalex: hello!\npunky: hi\n```\n\n### Piping and One-off messages\nTerm-chat can have input piped into it or have a message as a paramter like so:\n```bash\ncat id_rsa.pub | termchat\n\n# Or\ntermchat $(cat id_rsa.pub)\n```\n\nThis way, you can easliy whip those credentials over to your inpatient colleague.\n\n### Server Mode\nTo run a server, use the `--server` option. Port can be changed with `--port`\n\n### Channels and Nickname\nTerm-chat has support for channels / rooms and user names.\n```bash\ntermchat -c my_cool_channel -u my_fun_name\n```\n\n### JSON Client\nIf you want to display recent messages in some other app, you can try \n```\ncurl http://\u003cmy-server\u003e:2797/json/\u003cchannel_name\u003e/\u003cmessage_count\u003e\n``` \nand it will return a json structure of recent messages.\n\n### License\nQuite liberal.
