This was definitely a recipe for\r\nburnout. Last year (2021), I decided to do them as they come out and got much\r\nfarther (to puzzle 18 completed).\r\n\r\nI am doing this challenge in Python because of it's excellent looping, data\r\nstructure, and string handling capabilities. More to the point, I know Python\r\nwell and would rather just solve the puzzles than contend with learning a new\r\nprogramming language (though I have tried that in the past with Go).\r\n\r\n## Optimal solutions\r\n\r\nI don't spend much time looking to optimize my solutions or [\"code\r\ngolfing\"](https://code.golf/). Sometimes my naive algorithm will result in a\r\nsolution that takes up too much memory or too much time to run. In those cases I\r\ntry to find a better solution. But if I can get a right answer in under 5\r\nminutes, I usually go with it.\r\n\r\n## Puzzle input\r\n\r\nI usually commit my puzzle input, in case I want to go back and run one of the\r\nsolutions again, so I don't have to look it up on the website. For this year\r\n(2022), I'm planning on committing the sample input as well. I almost always run\r\nmy solution over the sample input (because it comes with an answer), but haven't\r\nbeen in the habit of committing the result.\r\n\r\n## Past years\r\n\r\n[2021](https://github.com/audiodude/advent2021)\r\n[2020](https://github.com/audiodude/advent2020)\r\n[2019](https://github.com/audiodude/advent2019)\r\n[2018](https://github.com/audiodude/advent2018)\r\n[2017](https://github.com/audiodude/advent2017)\r\n[2016](https://github.com/audiodude/advent2016)\r\n","project_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Faudiodude%2Fadvent2022","html_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/projects/github.com%2Faudiodude%2Fadvent2022","lists_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Faudiodude%2Fadvent2022/lists"}
