src=docs/logo.svg height=50 alt=Bricks\u003e\u003c/h1\u003e\n\nCasual IoT tinkering and DIY for people who love modern programming languages.\n\n**NOTE:** This project is _heavily_ WIP.\n\n## What is Bricks?\n\nI come up with dumb gadget ideas all the time.\n\n\"Wouldn't it be cool if a light goes on when I take my keys out of the\nkey tray or if a message is posted to the coffee chat whenever I put the\nkettle on?\"\n\nThey're fun for a while and maybe even inspire _actual_ useful ideas,\nbut mostly are disposable one-offs.\n\nI'm a developer by profession, but spending days writing C++, flashing\nmicrocontrollers, soldering custom PCBs, and building enclosures for\nwhat are essentially throwaway projects always felt a little harder than it should.\n\nThat led to the idea of building a suite of pre-programmed IoT \"Bricks\":\n\n\u003cimg src=docs/bricks.jpg alt=Bricks width=50%\u003e\n\nIndividual LEDs, buttons, sensors, that can be pulled out when needed, are all internet-enabled,\nand whose behavior can easily be programmed ad hoc using modern program\nlanguages such as Ruby or JavaScript.\n\nYou could say Bricks is a poor man's [Sony Mesh](https://meshprj.com/),\nrunning entirely on existing Arduino-compatible hardware and open source software,\nand made for people who already know how to code.\n\n## How to use Bricks?\n\nThis repository contains all the info required to build a collection of Bricks.\n\nDepending on your needs, it could be used to:\n\n- [**Create** Bricks using any ESP8266/ESP32s you have and the examples found in this library.](docs/create.md)\n- [**Integrate** just the C++ library to easily internet-enable your own ESP8266/ESP32 projects.](docs/integrate.md)\n- [**Recreate** the full original suite of Bricks including Node-RED flows, hardware, and enclosures.](docs/recreate.md)\n\n## Todo\n\n### Software\n\n- [ ] Figure out how to get a static IP on Balena\n- [ ] Write up building a Brick\n- [ ] Figure out why logging doesn't show up unless delayed\n- [ ] Switching from Char to Graph Matrix animation doesn't seem to work?\n\n#### Nice to haves\n- [ ] Extract Lumi\n- [ ] DRY up `const uint8_t PROGRESS_MAX = UINT8_MAX`\n\n### Hardware\n\n- [ ] More sturdy button placement\n- [ ] Avoid battery rattling about\n- [ ] Rebuild Bricks suite\n- [ ] Try out [Wemos D1 hack](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rfPwOtoGO4E)\n","project_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Fbalvig%2Fbricks","html_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/projects/github.com%2Fbalvig%2Fbricks","lists_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Fbalvig%2Fbricks/lists"}
