Contrary to simple splitting\ncables, this exapander buffers telegrams, and provides a dedicated port to\nconnected devices.\n\n[\u003cimg src=\"docs/Pictures/Photo1.jpeg\" width=\"256\" alt=\"Enclosed splitter.\"\u003e](docs/Pictures/Photo1.jpeg)\n[\u003cimg src=\"docs/Pictures/Photo3.jpeg\" width=\"256\" alt=\"Enclosure removed facing front-side.\"\u003e](docs/Pictures/Photo3.jpeg)\n[\u003cimg src=\"docs/Pictures/Photo5.jpeg\" width=\"256\" alt=\"Bottom side of the PCB.\"\u003e](docs/Pictures/Photo5.jpeg)\n\n### Advantages\nThis design solves two (potential) issues compared to other splitters:\n\n* Some port splitters have a primary and a secondary port. Only the primary\n port has the data-request line connected to the DSMR. This means that the\n secondary port cannot request telegrams on its own and depends on the device\n connected to the master port.\n* A device connected to the secondary port could receive out-of-sync, if it\n depends on the data-request line. This could lead to incomplete/corrupt\n telegrams.\n\nSee [this](docs/Problem-statement.md) for more information.\n\n## Features\n* 3-port splitter.\n* DSMR 5.0.\n* No external power supply needed.\n\nThe splitter provides galvanic isolation between ports, if the 5 V is not used.\nTo read more on how this was achieved, see [this](docs/Isolation.md).\n\nFurthemore, it requires a DSMR 5.0 meter because it provides 5 V power. Do note\nthat the power (5 V, 250 mA) provided by the DSMR has to be shared among all\nreaders, and the splitter itself requires ~50 mA.\n\nOlder DSMR versions can be supported by changing the firmware and providing 5 V\nexternally.\n\n## Contents\n* The `3d/` folder contains a 3D-printable design for an enclosure.\n* The `firmware/` folder contains the RIOT-OS firmware used for the\n microcontroller.\n* The `pcb/` folder contains the Kicad schema and board design.\n* The `tools/` folder contains additional tools, such as a DSMR simulator.\n\n## License\nThe work in this repository is covered by CC BY-NC-SA 4.0.
