The theme is implemented in terms of customisations and\n`deftheme` and does not require the `color-theme-package`.\n\n## Installation\n\nSolarized for Emacs is available for installation via the\n[MELPA](http://melpa.org) using `package.el`.  Assuming you've set it\nup you can install Solarized like this:\n\n`M-x package-install solarized-theme`\n\nThis package will install two variants of the theme; `solarized-light-theme`\nand `solarized-dark-theme`. You can load one of the theme variants with `M-x\nload-theme`.\n\nTo load it automatically on Emacs startup add this to your init file:\n\n```emacs-lisp\n(load-theme 'solarized-light t)\n```\n\nor\n\n```emacs-lisp\n(load-theme 'solarized-dark t)\n```\n\nYou can toggle between the light and dark variant of the theme automatically with\n`M-x solarized-toggle-theme`.\n\n## Alternative Palettes\n\nThe intent of this theme will always be that Solarized-dark/light will give you\nthe best possible experience. Palettes other than Solarized will never have\ninfluence over theming decisions, they are complementary.\n\nYou should not expect the complementary themes to be fully accurate or the most\nsuitable versions of how to apply those palettes into an emacs theme. The\nimportant aspect is that the color usage should be about the same as they are\nwith the default Solarized palette.\n\nColors stand out with varying amounts depending on which palette is used. This\ntheme aims for a very soft look, violet is one of the most pronounced accent\ncolors in the Solarized palette and that is one reason why it's rarely used by\nthe theme. Violet in another palette might stand out less and therefore be used\nmore often if the theme was specifically designed with that palette in mind.\n\nThe original Zenburn palette doesn't have an violet it is created by blending\nblue and magenta to get it to fit into the theme so it's tilted towards\ntranslating into what this theme has decided.\n\n*TLDR*; While `solarized-gruvbox-light` might be good complement for users of\n`solarized-light`, another theme not contained in this package (`gruvbox-light`\nor whatever) might be more finely tuned in relation to the Gruvbox palette.\n\n## Customisations\n\n### Theme-specific settings\n\nIf you don't like low-contrast modeline or fringe, you can `customize` them\neither by doing `M-x customize-group solarized` or setting the values using\nelisp code:\n\n```emacs-lisp\n;; make the fringe stand out from the background\n(setq solarized-distinct-fringe-background t)\n\n;; Don't change the font for some headings and titles\n(setq solarized-use-variable-pitch nil)\n\n;; make the modeline high contrast\n(setq solarized-high-contrast-mode-line t)\n\n;; Use less bolding\n(setq solarized-use-less-bold t)\n\n;; Use more italics\n(setq solarized-use-more-italic t)\n\n;; Use less colors for indicators such as git:gutter, flycheck and similar\n(setq solarized-emphasize-indicators nil)\n\n;; Don't change size of org-mode headlines (but keep other size-changes)\n(setq solarized-scale-org-headlines nil)\n\n;; Change the size of markdown-mode headlines (off by default)\n(setq solarized-scale-markdown-headlines t)\n\n;; Avoid all font-size changes\n(setq solarized-height-minus-1 1.0)\n(setq solarized-height-plus-1 1.0)\n(setq solarized-height-plus-2 1.0)\n(setq solarized-height-plus-3 1.0)\n(setq solarized-height-plus-4 1.0)\n\n;; Highlight all numbers\n(setq solarized-highlight-numbers t)\n\n```\n\nNote that these need to be set **before** `load-theme` is invoked for Solarized.\nAlternatively you can invoke `M-x solarized-reload` after making configuration changes.\n\n### Underline position setting for X\n\nIf you are using Emacs under X you might like the following setting which puts\nthe underline below the\n[font bottomline instead of the baseline](https://stackoverflow.com/questions/27631736/meaning-of-top-ascent-baseline-descent-bottom-and-leading-in-androids-font).\n\nImho it enhances the general readability and also it fits well with the default\n`solarized-high-contrast-mode-line` setting which uses an slightly emphazised\nunderline for the modeline to create one horizontal window border in the same\nmanner as the vertical border.\n\n```emacs-lisp\n(setq x-underline-at-descent-line t)\n```\n\n## Create theme using color palette\n\nThe Solarized Face settings consist of a palette of colors with eight\naccents in addition to the darkest and brightest colors. Recent\nchanges allow you to freely create theme files using different\npalettes instead of the Solarized color palette.  It consists of two\nsteps:\n\n* creating a theme file\n* loading a theme\n\n### Creating/Loading Theme Files\n\nSelect the darkest and lightest colors and the eight accents to pass\nto the function. This creates a theme file in `.emacs.d/themes/`. If\nyou need to make minor modifications, you can override Face\nindividually by specifying a free Sexp as the fourth argument.\n\nOnce you have a theme file, you can load it with `load-theme`, like\nsolarized.\n\n```emacs-lisp\n;; inspired vim's jellybeans color-theme\n(solarized-create-theme-file-with-palette 'light 'solarized-jellybeans-light\n  '(\"#202020\" \"#ffffff\"\n    \"#ffb964\" \"#8fbfdc\" \"#a04040\" \"#b05080\" \"#805090\" \"#fad08a\" \"#99ad6a\" \"#8fbfdc\"))\n\n(load-theme 'solarized-jellybeans-light t)\n```\n\n```emacs-lisp\n;; inspired emacs's mesa color-theme\n(solarized-create-theme-file-with-palette 'light 'solarized-mesa-light\n  '(\"#000000\" \"#faf5ee\"\n    \"#3388dd\" \"#ac3d1a\" \"#dd2222\" \"#8b008b\" \"#00b7f0\" \"#1388a2\" \"#104e8b\" \"#00688b\"))\n\n(load-theme 'solarized-mesa-light t)\n```\n\n```emacs-lisp\n;; inspired emacs's solarized color-theme\n(solarized-create-theme-file-with-palette 'light 'solarized-solarized-light\n  '(\"#002b36\" \"#fdf6e3\"\n    \"#b58900\" \"#cb4b16\" \"#dc322f\" \"#d33682\" \"#6c71c4\" \"#268bd2\" \"#2aa198\" \"#859900\"))\n\n(load-theme 'solarized-solarized-light t)\n```\n\n```emacs-lisp\n;; wombat color-theme with misc face definition\n(solarized-create-theme-file-with-palette 'dark 'solarized-wombat-dark\n  '(\"#2a2a29\" \"#f6f3e8\"\n    \"#e5c06d\" \"#ddaa6f\" \"#ffb4ac\" \"#e5786d\" \"#834c98\" \"#a4b5e6\" \"#7ec98f\" \"#8ac6f2\")\n  '((custom-theme-set-faces\n     theme-name\n     `(default ((,class (:foreground ,(solarized-color-blend base03 base3 0.15 2) :background ,base03))))\n     `(highlight ((,class (:background ,violet))))\n     `(font-lock-builtin-face ((,class (:foreground ,magenta))))\n     `(font-lock-constant-face ((,class (:foreground ,blue))))\n     `(font-lock-comment-face ((,class (:foreground ,base00))))\n     `(mode-line\n       ((,class (:foreground ,base2 :background ,(solarized-color-blend base03 base3 0.85 2)))))\n     `(mode-line-inactive\n       ((,class (:foreground ,base00 :background ,(solarized-color-blend base03 \"black\" 0.85 2)))))\n     `(mode-line-buffer-id ((,class (:foreground ,base3 :weight bold))))\n     `(minibuffer-prompt ((,class (:foreground ,base1))))\n     `(vertical-border ((,class (:foreground ,base03)))))))\n\n(load-theme 'solarized-wombat-dark t)\n```\n\n**Note:** If the theme file already exists, `solorized-create-theme-file` does not\nregenerate the file. If the file exists, it can be overwritten by\nsetting the fifth argument to `t`.\n\n## Versioning Policy\n\n- This package uses [semantic versioning](https://semver.org/)\n\n- Master branch is to be considered unstable (which isn't an excuse to\n  constantly break behaviour). Use MELPA Stable if you want fewer breaking\n  changes.\n\n## Bugs \u0026 Improvements\n\nPlease, report any problems that you find on the projects integrated\nissue tracker. If you've added some improvements and you want them\nincluded upstream don't hesitate to send me a patch or even better - a\nGitHub pull request.\n\n## License\n\nCopyright © 2011-2025 Bozhidar Batsov, [Thomas Frössman](http://t.jossystem.se), and\n[contributors](https://github.com/bbatsov/solarized-emacs/contributors).\n\nDistributed under the GNU General Public License, version 3\n\n[badge-license]: https://img.shields.io/badge/license-GPL_3-green.svg\n","project_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Fbbatsov%2Fsolarized-emacs","html_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/projects/github.com%2Fbbatsov%2Fsolarized-emacs","lists_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Fbbatsov%2Fsolarized-emacs/lists"}
