The service indexes the archives in close to
real-time (delay is less than 5 minutes). Currently, we are indexing BGP table dump and updates files
from [RIPE RIS][ripe-ris] and [RouteViews][route-views].

[ripe-ris]: https://www.ripe.net/analyse/internet-measurements/routing-information-service-ris/ris-data-access/mrt-files-store

[route-views]: http://archive.routeviews.org/

This Rust library provides SDK access to the BGPKIT Broker API as well as a command-line tool to start a self-hosted
broker instance.
The current BGPKIT Broker API is available at <https://api.bgpkit.com/docs>.

BGPKIT Broker is used in production at [Cloudflare Radar][radar] powering its [routing page][routing] and projects
like [BGP hijack detection][hijack]
and [route leak detection][route-leak].

[radar]: https://radar.cloudflare.com/

[route-leak]: https://blog.cloudflare.com/route-leak-detection-with-cloudflare-radar/

[hijack]: https://blog.cloudflare.com/bgp-hijack-detection/

[routing]: https://blog.cloudflare.com/radar-routing/

## Broker Rust SDK

### Installation

Add the following dependency to your `Cargo.toml`:

```toml
bgpkit-broker = "0.8"
```

### Overview

The BGPKIT Broker Rust SDK provides access to BGP archive files from RouteViews and RIPE RIS collectors. It features:
- 🔍 Search BGP archive files by time, collector, project, and data type
- 🔄 Built-in pagination with automatic streaming through iterator
- 📊 Access to collector peers information
- ⏰ Query latest available files for each collector
- ✅ Configuration validation with early error detection

### Configuration API

All configuration methods return `Result<Self, BrokerError>` for proper error handling:

```rust
use bgpkit_broker::{BgpkitBroker, BrokerError};
// Configure broker with error handling
let broker = BgpkitBroker::new()
    .ts_start("2022-01-01")?        // timestamps: RFC3339, Unix epoch, or pure dates
    .ts_end("2022-01-02T00:00:00Z")?
    .collector_id("rrc00,route-views2")?  // comma-separated collectors
    .project("riperis")?             // "riperis" or "routeviews"
    .data_type("rib")?               // "rib" or "updates"
    .page_size(100)?                 // 1-100000
    .page(1)?;                       // page number >= 1
```

#### Timestamp Formats
Flexible timestamp parsing with automatic normalization to RFC3339:
- Unix timestamp: `"1640995200"`
- RFC3339: `"2022-01-01T00:00:00Z"`
- Pure dates: `"2022-01-01"`, `"2022/01/01"`, `"20220101"`
- Date with time: `"2022-01-01 12:30:00"`

### Basic Usage

#### Using Iterator (Recommended)
Automatically handles pagination to stream all matching items:

```rust
let broker = BgpkitBroker::new()
    .ts_start("2022-01-01").unwrap()
    .ts_end("2022-01-02").unwrap();
// Iterate by reference (reusable broker)
for item in &broker {
    println!("{}", item);
}
// Or consume broker into iterator
let items: Vec<BrokerItem> = broker.into_iter().collect();
```

#### Manual Page Queries
For specific page access or custom iteration:

```rust
let mut broker = BgpkitBroker::new()
    .ts_start("2022-01-01").unwrap()
    .page(3).unwrap()
    .page_size(20).unwrap();
// Query single page
let items = broker.query_single_page()?;
// Turn to next page
broker.turn_page(4);
let next_items = broker.query_single_page()?;
```

### Shortcuts for Common BGP Analysis

The SDK provides convenient shortcuts for frequent BGP data analysis patterns:

#### Daily RIB Analysis
Get RIB files captured at midnight for daily snapshots:

```rust
// Get daily RIBs from diverse collectors for comprehensive analysis
let broker = BgpkitBroker::new()
    .ts_start("2024-01-01").unwrap()
    .ts_end("2024-01-31").unwrap();
let diverse_collectors = broker.most_diverse_collectors(5, None).unwrap();
let daily_ribs = broker
    .clone()
    .collector_id(&diverse_collectors.join(",")).unwrap()
    .daily_ribs().unwrap();
println!("Found {} daily snapshots from {} collectors",
         daily_ribs.len(), diverse_collectors.len());
```

#### Recent BGP Updates Monitoring
Monitor recent BGP changes:

```rust
// Get updates from last 6 hours from specific collectors
let recent_updates = BgpkitBroker::new()
    .collector_id("route-views2,rrc00").unwrap()
    .recent_updates(6).unwrap();
println!("Found {} recent update files", recent_updates.len());
```

#### Intelligent Collector Selection
Find collectors with maximum ASN diversity:

```rust
// Get most diverse RouteViews collectors
let broker = BgpkitBroker::new();
let rv_collectors = broker.most_diverse_collectors(3, Some("routeviews")).unwrap();
// Use for comprehensive update analysis
let comprehensive_updates = broker
    .clone()
    .collector_id(&rv_collectors.join(",")).unwrap()
    .recent_updates(12).unwrap();
```

### Advanced Features

#### Query Latest Files
Get the most recent file for each collector:

```rust
let broker = BgpkitBroker::new();
let latest_files = broker.latest()?;
// Filter by specific collector
let broker = BgpkitBroker::new()
    .collector_id("rrc00").unwrap();
let latest = broker.latest()?;
```

#### Query Collector Peers
Access BGP peer information with filtering options:

```rust
let broker = BgpkitBroker::new()
    .collector_id("route-views2").unwrap()
    .peers_only_full_feed(true);
let peers = broker.get_peers()?;
for peer in peers {
    println!("ASN: {}, IP: {}, Prefixes: v4={}/v6={}",
        peer.asn, peer.ip, peer.num_v4_pfxs, peer.num_v6_pfxs);
}
```

Additional peer filters:
- `.peers_asn(ASN)` - The image is available on Docker Hub
at [bgpkit/broker](https://hub.docker.com/r/bgpkit/bgpkit-broker).

To run in deattached mode (as a service):

```bash
docker run -d -p 40064:40064 bgpkit/bgpkit-broker:latest
```

To run as a service using `docker-compose`:

``` bash
docker-compose up -d
```

You can also build the Docker image from the source code:

```bash
docker build -t bgpkit/bgpkit-broker:latest .
```

### On-premises CLI

You can also start a BGPKIT Broker instance on your own server using the `bgpkit-broker` CLI tool with the following
command:

```bash
bgpkit-broker serve YOUR_SQLITE_3_FILE_PATH.sqlite3 --bootstrap --silent
```

* `YOUR_SQLITE_3_FILE_PATH.sqlite3` is the path to the SQLite3 database file.
* `--bootstrap` flag is used to bootstrap the database content from the provided daily backup database.
* `--silent` flag is used to disable the bootstrap download progress bar.

On a systemd managed OS like Debian or Ubuntu, you can also use the following service file to manage the BGPKIT Broker
service:

```ini
[Unit]
Description=BGPKIT Broker Service
After=network.target
[Service]
ExecStart=/usr/local/bin/bgpkit-broker serve /var/lib/bgpkit/broker.sqlite3
Restart=on-failure
User=root
[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target
```

Put this file at `/etc/systemd/system/bgpkit-broker.service` and run `systemctl daemon-reload` to reload the service
list, and then you can start the service with `systemctl start bgpkit-broker`.
To enable the service to start on boot, run `systemctl enable bgpkit-broker`.

## Data Provider

If you have publicly available data and want to be indexed BGPKIT Broker service, please email us at
data@bgpkit.com. Our back-end service is designed to be flexible and should be able to adapt to most data archiving
approaches.
