Motivation\nNode's native timing function – [`process.hrtime()`](https://nodejs.org/api/process.html#process_process_hrtime_time) – is extremely precise, but low-level and messy to use for profiling without any abstraction on top of it.\n\n`node-perf-timer` aims to provide a simple API to provide a more intuitive developer experience when measuring elapsed time in Node applications.\n\n\n## Requirements\n* Node v4.x or higher\n\n\n## Installation\n```\nnpm i --save-dev node-perf-timer\n```\nor\n```\nyarn add node-perf-timer --dev\n```\n\n## Usage\n```js\nconst perfTimer = require('node-perf-timer')\n\n// start a timer\nperfTimer.start();\n\nfunctionToBeMeasured();\n\n// returns diff in nanoseconds \u0026 logs (by default):\n// Message: functionToBeMeasured()\n// Duration: 0 s, 3.589862 ms\nconst nsDiff = perfTimer.stopAndDiff('functionToBeMeasured()');\n```\n\n## Configuration\nBy default, the configuration object takes the following shape:\n```js\nconst opts = {\n  shouldPrint: true, // should diffs be logged to the console?\n  precision: undefined, // e.g. `4`; how many decimal places to use for millisecond formatting\n  defaultMessage: undefined, // e.g. `\"hello bottleneck!\"`; default message for each diff being logged\n};\n```\n\n## API\n* `config(configObj)` - Adjust default opts for all future `perfTimer` calls.\n* `start()` - Starts a new timer and returns the absolute start time in nanoseconds.\n* `stop()` - Stops the current timer and returns the absolute end time in nanoseconds.\n* `diff(nsStartTime, nsEndTime)` - Accepts a start \u0026 end time in nanoseconds and returns the difference.\n* `stopAndDiff(message?)` - Combines stop() \u0026 diff().
