osmflat ![][ci]\n\n![berlin-features]\n\nFlat OpenStreetMap (OSM) data format providing an efficient *random* data\naccess through [memory mapped files].\n\nThe data format is described and implemented in [flatdata]. The [schema]\ndescribes the fundamental OSM data structures: nodes, ways, relations and\ntags as simple non-nested data structures. The relations between these are\nexpressed through indexes.\n\n## Compiler\n\nBesides the library for working with osmflat archives, the crate `osmflatc`\ncontains an OSM [pbf format][PBF format] to osmflat data compiler.\n\nTo compile OSM data from pbf to osmflat use:\n\n```shell\ncargo run --release -- input.osm.pbf output.osm.flatdata\n```\n\nThe output is a flatdata which is a directory consisting of several\nfiles. The schema is also part of the archive. It is checked every time the\narchive is opened. This guarantees that the compiler which was used to produce\nthe archive fits to the schema used for reading it. The archive data is not\ncompressed.\n\n## Using data\n\nYou can use any [flatdata] supported language for reading an osmflat archive.\nFor reading the data in Rust, we provide the `osmflat` crate.\n\nFirst, add this to your Cargo.toml:\n\n```toml\n[dependencies]\nosmflat = \"0.3.0\"\n```\n\nNow, you can open an osmflat archive as any other flatdata archive and read its\ndata:\n\n```rust\nuse osmflat::{FileResourceStorage, Osm};\n\nfn main() {\n    let storage = FileResourceStorage::new(\"path/to/archive.osm.flatdata\");\n    let archive = Osm::open(storage).unwrap();\n\n    for node in archive.nodes().iter() {\n        println!(\"{:?}\", node);\n    }\n}\n```\n\n## Examples\n\nCheck the [osmflat/examples] directory.
