is a simple Python script to create *incremental* backups using\n*rsync* and *xdelta3*:\n\n- By using *rsync* backups require **little bandwidth**;\n- By using *xdelta3*, incremental backups use **little space**;\n- The codebase is very small; thus **easy to adapt** to your own needs.\n\nGetting started\n---------------\n### Installing *pachy*\n\nYou will need Python's\n[setuptools](http://pypi.python.org/pypi/setuptools);\n[xz-utils](http://tukaani.org/xz/)\n[rsync](http://rsync.net/) and\n[xdelta3](http://xdelta.org/).\nOn Debian Linux, execute:\n\n    $ apt-get install python-setuptools rsync xdelta3 xz-utils\n\nThen, to install *pachy*:\n\n    $ easy_install pachy\n\n### Example: local backups\nIn this example we will backup our `~/Document` folder Cleaning up\n\n#### Incremental backups\nAfter some work we changed the file `example1` and deleted `document2`.\nTo create an incremental backup, just run the same command a second time.\nOnly changes will be copied.\n\n    $ pachy ~/Documents /mnt/disk/Backup\n    INFO:root:0. Checking set-up\n    INFO:root:1. Running rsync\n    sending incremental file list\n    ./\n    example1\n    dir1/\n    deleting dir1/document2\n    \n    sent 161 bytes  received 38 bytes  398.00 bytes/sec\n    total size is 9  speedup is 0.05\n    INFO:root:2. Cleaning up\n\n#### Backup format\nIf you look at `/mnt/disk/Backup` you will find it contains:\n\n    .\n    ├── deltas\n    │   └── 2012-02-05@14h13.02.tar.xz\n    └── mirror\n        ├── dir1\n        │   └── document3\n        └── example1\n\nThe `mirror` subdirectory is an exact copy of the `~/Documents` folder.\nUnder `deltas` there is for each incremental backup a `.tar.xz` archive.\nWe can uncompress it with\n\n    $ tar xJf 2012-02-05@14h13.02.tar.xz\n\nWe see it contains:\n\n    .\n    ├── changed\n    │   └── example1.xdelta3\n    └── deleted\n        └── dir1\n            └── document2\n\nUnder the `deleted` folder are all the files that were deleted.\nUnder `changed` are the *xdelta3* differences of the changed file.\n\nTo restore the old `example1` to `example1.restored`, run:\n\n    $ xdelta3 -d -s example1 example1.xdelta3 example1.restored\n\n### Example: backing up a server via rsync over SSH\nTo create daily backups of a full server, execute:\n\n    $ crontab -e\n\nand add the following line\n\n    @daily pachy my-server.com:/ /backups/my-server\n\nThis will create a full backup of **all** files.
