markdown-bokeh\n\nThis is an extension to [Python-Markdown](https://pythonhosted.org/Markdown/)\nwhich provides the ability to include plots from bokeh. This is essentially a\nmodified version of\n[markdown-include](https://github.com/cmacmackin/markdown-include) that inserts\nthe generated javascript and html into the raw markdown file prior to further\nprocessing.\n\n## Installation\n\n```bash\ngit clone git@github.com:cfangmeier/markdown-bokeh.git\ncd markdown-bokeh\npython setup.py install --user\n```\n\nYou can also install from `pypi` via pip\n\n```bash\npip install markdown-bokeh\n```\n\n## Usage\nThis module can be used in a program in the following way:\n\n```python\nimport markdown\nhtml = markdown.markdown(source, extensions=['markdown_bokeh.bokeh'])\n```\n\nOr, if like me, you are generating a site with Pelican,\n\n```python\nMARKDOWN = {\n    'extension_configs': {\n        'markdown_bokeh.bokeh': {},\n        'markdown.extensions.codehilite': {'css_class': 'highlight'},\n        'markdown.extensions.extra': {},\n        'markdown.extensions.meta': {},\n    },\n    'output_format': 'html5',\n}\n```\n\nYou need to first save the `components` of your bokeh figure like\n\n```python\nfrom bokeh.embed import components\nscript, div = components(fig)\n\nwith open(f'{basename}.js', 'w') as f:\n    f.write(script)\nwith open(f'{basename}.html', 'w') as f:\n    f.write(div)\n```\n\nThe syntax for use within your Markdown files is ``{!basename!}(caption)``. This\nstatement will be replaced by the contents of basename.js and basename.html.\n\nBy default, all file-names are evaluated relative to the location from which\nMarkdown is being called.
