Expect many parts to be broken.\n\nThese are some scripts that help me learn Japanese.\n\nMost scripts are supposed to be used as plugins for an IRC bot or run\non a shell. There\nare a few dependencies not present on a default Ubuntu system.  You\ncan install them with\n#+BEGIN_EXAMPLE\n$ sudo apt install mecab-jumandic-utf8 mecab kakasi xmlstarlet xsltproc python-irclib sqlite3 bc liburi-perl tesseract-ocr imagemagick\n#+END_EXAMPLE\n* audio/\n  find_audio.sh finds an audio version of a given Japanese\n  word on languagepod101.\n#+BEGIN_EXAMPLE\n$ ./find_audio.sh 夜空\nAudio for 夜空 [よぞら]: http://tinyurl.com/p8aq8jo\n#+END_EXAMPLE\n* compare_encoding\n  Compares the size of different encodings of the same Japanese\n  Wikipedia article. In almost all cases UTF-8 is smaller than UTF-16.\n#+BEGIN_EXAMPLE\n$ ./compare_encoding.sh 夜空\nUTF-8 vs. UTF-16: 91213 vs. 156876 bytes. UTF-8 wins by 41.8%.\n#+END_EXAMPLE\n* gettext/\n  Internationalization support. Currently supported languages:\n  - English\n  - German\n  - Polish\n\n  Be sure to run gettext/regenerate_mo_files.sh if you would like to\n  use a translation.\n* jmdict/\n  jm.sh provides jmdict lookups and wa.sh wadoku lookups.  Works best\n  for Japanese-\u003eEnglish (or Japanese-\u003eGerman), not so well for the\n  reverse direction.  This is because jmdict is a Japanese English\n  dictionary and not an English Japanese dictionary.\n\n  To start, you first need to run the scripts prepare_jmdict.sh and\n  prepare_wadoku.sh.
