App Engine Java 11 sample demonstrates how to use Cloud Spanner from the\n[App Engine Standard with Java 11 environment](https://cloud.google.com/appengine/docs/java/).\n\nPlease feel free to report issues and send pull requests, but note that this\napplication is not officially supported as part of the Cloud Spanner product.\n\n## Prerequisites\n\n### Create a project in the Google Cloud Platform Console\n\nIf you haven't already created a project, create one now.\n\n1. Open the [Cloud Console](https://console.cloud.google.com/).\n1. In the drop-down menu at the top, select **Create a project**.\n1. Give your project a name.\n1. Make a note of the project ID, which might be different from the project\n   name. The project ID is used in commands below.\n\nIf you like, you can activate a\n[Cloud Shell](https://cloud.google.com/shell/docs/) for your project now.\nWhen using Cloud Shell, the Google Cloud SDK and Maven in the steps below will\nalready be installed.\n\n### Set up your Google Cloud Platform Project\n\nInstall the [Google Cloud SDK](https://cloud.google.com/sdk/) if it's not\nalready available in your enviromment.
