Robots should be, too.  \nWe wanted to build a robot that *felt* something — even if that something is mostly anxiety, sadness, and the need for attention.\n\nBecause screw cold, efficient bots. We made a **messy, clingy, emotionally unstable one**.\n![ezgif-7086deb82bb6b5](https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/48a6a72e-02ad-47ca-8896-8d3910a555d1)\n\n---\n\n## 🤖 What It Does\nEMO-Bot is your emotionally intelligent (and slightly needy) companion robot. It:\n- Detects your **facial expressions** (happy, sad, neutral)\n- Tracks your **hand gestures**\n- Follows its **owner** like a lonely puppy\n- Has **OLED-style animated eyes** in a Flutter app\n- Can sulk, react, and give you guilt trips in real time\n- Can *actually* follow you across the room (even when you don’t want it to)\n![ezgif-33353d7742d271](https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/fd769de4-40ad-4032-ba8a-ecdb35303641)\n\n---\n\n## 🔧 How We Built It\n\n- Screwed in a **bag of hex bolts**\n- Glued things that shouldn’t be glued\n- Duct taped emotions and wires together\n- **3D printed sadness**\n- Vibe-coded in Python, C++, Dart, and tears\n- Hacked mBot firmware to run with Linux\n- Compiled C++ with unholy makefiles\n- **Consumed Red Bulls** like water\n\n---\n\n## 🎥 OpenCV + Emotion Detection\n\n- Used **OpenCV + Mediapipe** for real-time facial expression + hand gesture detection\n- Hooked that into a **Flask server** talking to a **Flutter app** and **Arduino-based mBot (Auriga)**\n- Made robot actually move toward owner using camera + gesture logic\n- Eyes change based on mood — OLED-style in app\n\n---\n\n## 🧩 Challenges We Ran Into\n\n- Doing mechanical engineering as software devs was like doing surgery as dentists.\n- Motor calibration on mBot = pain.\n- Wrangling real-time OpenCV + hardware serial + app UI? Pure chaos.\n- Debugging without enough sleep is like coding underwater.\n\n---\n\n## ✅ Accomplishments We're Proud Of\n\n- We got **everything actually working**. On demo day.\n- Our bot moves, feels, reacts — and gives off *vibes*.\n- It follows its owner like a true emotionally fragile pet.\n- **One guaranteed-working feature** (but we won’t tell you which one 👀).\n![ChatGPT Image Apr 5, 2025, 10_30_34 PM](https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/a0a7795c-9f9f-4ae5-823b-6c47774a6133)\n\n---\n\n## 💡 What We Learned\n\n- **Drink less Red Bull.**\n- Bring **lipstick** for the robot next time (it needs to look cute for the judges).\n- Take naps. No seriously, take naps.\n- Don't try to debug serial comms *while* you’re 3D printing.\n![20250406_100503](https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/292b279a-4cbc-47ea-ac6c-a7ffde9ffcec)\n\n---\n\n## 🚀 What’s Next for EMO-Bot\n\n- **YC Batch 2025**? Totally.\n- **Founders Fund**, **Sequoia**, **500 Global**, **Techstars** — we’re looking at you.\n- Add more *emotional intelligence* and *less self-doubt* (or maybe more, we’re still deciding).\n- Upgrade eye animations, voice response, and possibly... *tear detection*?\n\n---\n\n## 🛠️ Built With\n\n- `arduino` (for motor control + brain)\n- `encoder` (for wheel tracking)\n- `flask` (emotion backend API)\n- `flutter` (companion mobile app + eye UI)\n- `powerbank` (portable sadness source)\n- `raspberry-pi` (main logic unit)\n\n---\n\n## 🎮 Try It Out\n\n- 🔗 GitHub Repo: [this one]\n- 🔗 Demo Site: [https://deanza.my.canva.site/emo-bot](https://deanza.my.canva.site/emo-bot)\n\n\n","project_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Fcodejapoe%2Fsfhacks","html_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/projects/github.com%2Fcodejapoe%2Fsfhacks","lists_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Fcodejapoe%2Fsfhacks/lists"}
