M., and Ommer, B. (2020): Deep Learning of Cuneiform Sign Detection with Weak Supervision using Transliteration Alignment, PLOS ONE, 15:12, pp. 1–21\n\u003e[https://doi.org/10.1371/journal.pone.0243039](https://doi.org/10.1371/journal.pone.0243039)\n\n\n\nThe web front-end offers the following functionality:\n\n- create collections of tablet images\n- upload tablet images\n- apply the sign detector\n- visualize sign detections\n- annotate cuneiform signs\n- annotate lines\n\nThe web front-end has been developed using a combination of PHP and JavaScript.\n\n\n### Requirements\n\n- Apache web server (otherwise replace `.htaccess` files)\n- PHP7 (with php-xml, php-curl, php-zip, php-gd packages)\n\n\n### Installation\n\n1) Create a copy of this repository on your machine so that the installed web server makes the web front end available through the browser.\n\n2) Ensure that the `cuneiformbrowser/data` and `cuneiformbrowser/log` directory is writable.\nOne of several options is to use the chmod command, e.g. `$chmod -R 777 ./cuneiformbrowser/log/`\n\n3) Setup your login preferences under `cuneiformbrowser/users/users.xml`.\n(WARNING: the user access management is very basic and only provides a low level of protection)\n\n4) To enable sign detection in the web front end, install the [cuneiform-sign-detection-code](https://github.com/compvis/cuneiform-sign-detection-code/) on the same machine and run the webapp back-end using `$python detector_app.py`.\nFor instruction how to run the webapp back-end, refer to the readme provided in [./lib/webapp/](https://github.com/compvis/cuneiform-sign-detection-code/blob/master/lib/webapp/).\n\n\n### Usage\n\nPlease refer to the video and the help texts provided throughout the web front-end.\n\n\u003cimg src=\"https://cunei.iwr.uni-heidelberg.de/cuneiformbrowser/functions/demo_cuneiform_sign_detection.gif\" alt=\"Web interface detection\" width=\"700\"/\u003e\n\n\n#### References\n\nThe two example images of clay tablets included in this repo are from the collection of the [Vorderasiatisches Museum Berlin](https://www.smb.museum/en/museums-institutions/vorderasiatisches-museum/home.html) which kindly granted us permission to use them for our research purposes.\n","project_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Fcompvis%2Fcuneiform-sign-detection-webapp","html_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/projects/github.com%2Fcompvis%2Fcuneiform-sign-detection-webapp","lists_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Fcompvis%2Fcuneiform-sign-detection-webapp/lists"}
