It is built upon https://github.com/agl/xmpp-client and\nhttps://github.com/coyim/otr3. It adds a graphical user interface and defaults to safe and secure options. Our ambition\nis that it should be possible for even the most high-risk people on the planet to safely use CoyIM, without having to\nmake any configuration changes.\n\nTo do this, CoyIM has OTR enabled and uses Tor by default. Besides that, it will only use the Tor Onion Service for a\nknown server and also uses TLS and TLS certificates to verify the connection - no configuration required. The\nimplementation is written in the Go language, to avoid many common types of vulnerabilities that come from using unsafe\nlanguages.\n\nWe use Weblate (https://hosted.weblate.org/projects/coyim/) to help crowd-source translation.\n\n\n## Security warning\n\nCoyIM is currently under active development. The code for our OTR implementation has been audited, with good\nresults. You can find out more information on our website. However, the rest of CoyIM still has not received an\naudit. This is worth keeping in mind if you are using CoyIM for something sensitive.\n\n\n## Getting started\n\nUsing CoyIM is very simple: you just need to download the executable file from the project's [home\npage](https://coy.im/) and then run it.\n\n**If you are using Arch Linux, you can install CoyIM via the [AUR](https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/coyim).**\n\nWhen you first launch CoyIM, a wizard will appear. If you already have a Jabber client installed and configured for OTR\nencryption in your computer, you can use this wizard to import your account settings as well as your OTR keys, and your\ncontacts' fingerprints. By importing them, you won't have to do anything else to use CoyIM.\n\nIf you don't import your account settings, keys and fingerprints through the wizard that opens at the first launch, you\ncan still import them by going to Accounts -\u003e Import at a later stage.\n\n\u003cp align=\"left\"\u003e\n  \u003cimg src=\"images/wizard.png\" height=\"242\" width=\"242\"\u003e\n\u003c/p\u003e\n\nIf the client you have been using so far is Pidgin, you will find the files you need to import in the `.purple`\ndirectory in your home.\n\nIf you want to know more about the features you will and will not find in CoyIM, read [this\npage](https://coy.im/features/).\n\n\u003cp align=\"left\"\u003e\n  \u003cimg src=\"images/main_window.png\"\u003e\n\u003c/p\u003e\n\n\n## Building CoyIM\n\n**Please note**: CoyIM requires Golang version 1.19 or higher to build. CoyIM also requires at least GTK+ version 3.12\nor higher. The installation of this depends on your operating system:\n\n**Ubuntu:**\n\n```sh\nsudo apt-get install gtk+3.0 libgtk-3-dev\n```\n\n**MacOS:**\n\n```sh\nbrew install gnome-icon-theme\nbrew install gtk+3 gtk-mac-integration\n```\n\nIn order to build CoyIM, you should check out the source code, and run:\n\n```sh\nmake build\n```\n\nIt might be possible to build CoyIM using `go get` but we currently do not support this method.\n\n\n## Contributing to CoyIM\n\nWe have instructions here on how you [can get started contributing to CoyIM](CONTRIBUTING.md).\n\n\n## Reproducibility\n\nCoyIM supports reproducible builds for Linux on AMD64.
