Argload, easy reloading of command line arguments\nArgload is a python package facilitating the reloading of command line\narguments.\n\nAs an example is worth a thousand words, let's explain the use cases of\n**argload** with an example bit of code.\n\nSay you have a bunch of experiments to run depending on two hyperparameters,\n`a` and `b`. You define your parser with `argparse` as follow:\n```python\nimport argparse\n\nparser = argparse.ArgumentParser()\nparser.add_argument('--a', type=float, default=1e-3)\nparser.add_argument('--b', type=float, default=2.)\nargs = parser.parse_args()\n```\n\nNow say you have 2 very long experiments to run, one with\n`a=1e-3`, `b=3`, and the other one with `a=1e-4`, `b=1`. If both\nexperiments were very short, everything would be fine, you would\nlaunch each of them independantly, and even if they crash, simply\nrestarting them using your bash history is both simple and fast.\n\nBut if they are very long, there is a non negligible chance for your command\nline not to be in your bash history anymore, or for you to have forgotten\nyour exact hyperparameters (OK, two is easy, 32 less so, 32 hyperparameters on\n54 experiments even less so...).\n\nThat's where **argload** can come in handy. Now simply wrap your\nparser in an ArgumentLoader instance in the following way:\n```python\nimport argparse\nimport argload\n\nparser = argparse.ArgumentParser()\nparser.add_argument('--a', type=float, default=1e-3)\nparser.add_argument('--b', type=float, default=2.)\nparser = argload.ArgumentLoader(parser, to_reload=['a', 'b'])\nargs = parser.parse_args()\n```\nYour script takes one additional required argument `logdir`, the\ndirectory where your current argument will be stored (and typically\nthe directory where all your results will be stored), and two\noptional flags `overwrite` and `dump`. Say you want to store the\nresults of your first experiment in the `exp1`. After creating this\ndirectory, the first time you run your script, with the `logdir` argument\nproperly set, \n```\npython script.py --logdir exp1 --a 1e-3 --b 3\n```\nargload stores your arguments in the `exp1` directory. Now, the\nnext time you run your script in `exp1`,\n```\npython script.py --logdir exp1\n```\nyour hyperparameters will be automatically loaded.\n\nI you specify the `overwrite` flag, you can overwrite previous values\nof your hyperparameters. For instance, running\n```\npython script.py --logdir exp1 --overwrite --a 1e-2\n```\nwill relaunch `script.py` with arguments `a=1e-2`, `b=3`.\nHowever, the new value for `a` will not be stored in your directory,\nif you relaunch\n```\npython script.py --logdir exp1\n```\nthe values you will be using are still `a=1e-3`, `b=3`.\n\nIf you want to store your new setting inside of your experiment directory,\nissue the command\n```\npython script.py --logdir exp1 --overwrite --dump --a 1e-2\n```\nThe next time you will launch your script in `exp1`, the values used\nwill be `a=1e-2`, `b=3`.\n","project_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Fctallec%2Fargload","html_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/projects/github.com%2Fctallec%2Fargload","lists_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Fctallec%2Fargload/lists"}
