CasperJS test runner built for GruntJS\n\n[![Upstream][upstreamBadge]][upstreamLink]\n[![NPM version][versionBadge]][versionLink]\n[![Travis CI build status][travisBadge]][travisLink]\n[![David dependency status][davidBadge]][davidLink]\n[![Development Dependency Status][davidDevBadge]][davidDevLink]\n\u003cbr\u003e[![npm Badge][nodeiBadge]][nodeiLink]\n\nThis was originally a fork of [ronaldlokers/grunt-casperjs] but with more\nfeatures:\n\n- [custom casper test runners]\n- no grunt output (`silent` flag of grunt-casperjs is always on)\n- customizable output parsing\n- aggregated results across all casper tasks run\n- custom grunt exit status (warns on skips/dubious instead of failing)\n\n## Screenshot\n\n![Example output](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/davidosomething/grunt-wendy/master/docs/screenshot.png)\n\n## Getting Started\n\nThis plugin requires Grunt `\u003e=0.4.0`\n\nThis plugin requires phantomjs-prebuilt `~2.1.4`. It is specified as a peer\ndependency, so be sure to install it manually.\n\nIf you haven't used [Grunt] before, be sure to check out the [Getting Started]\nguide, as it explains how to create a [Gruntfile] as well as install and use\nGrunt plugins. Once you're familiar with that process, you may install this\nplugin with this command:\n\n```shell\nnpm install --save-dev grunt-wendy\n# DON'T FORGET THE phantomjs-prebuilt PEER DEPENDENCY\n```\n\nOne the plugin has been installed, it may be enabled inside your Gruntfile with\nthis line of JavaScript:\n\n```javascript\ngrunt.loadNpmTasks('grunt-wendy');\n```\n\n## The \"wendy\" task\n\n### Overview\n\nIn your project's Gruntfile, add a section named `wendy` to the data object\npassed into `grunt.initConfig()`.\n\n### Usage Examples\n\n#### Default Options\n\n```javascript\ngrunt.initConfig({\n  wendy: {\n    options: {\n      async: 'eachSeries',\n      spawnOpts: null,\n      cli: [],\n      runner: 'test',\n      formatter: formatter, // function in tasks/lib/formatter.js\n      formatterOptions: {\n        whitespace: true,\n        filter: null\n      },\n      fail: ['failed'],\n      warn: ['dubious', 'skipped']\n    },\n    files: ['tests/e2e/**/*.js']\n  },\n})\n```\n\n#### Some nice options for Jenkins / CI servers\n\n```javascript\ngrunt.initConfig({\n  wendy: {\n    options: {\n      async: 'each',\n      cli: [\n        '--no-colors',          // jenkins hates color\n        '--log-level=error',    // hide casper logging\n        '--web-security=false'  // phantomjs option\n      ],\n      formatterOptions: {\n        whitespace: true,\n        // filter out useless headers since we're running async and they'll\n        // be out of order\n        filter: /(Test file:)|(tests executed)|(^\\w*#)/\n      },\n      fail: ['failed'],   // fail on failed\n      warn: ['dubious']   // don't fail on dubious\n    },\n    files: ['tests/e2e/**/*.js']\n  }\n});\n```\n\n### Reading CLI options from Grunt\n\nCasperJS CLI options can also be passed directly from the command line when\nrunning `grunt`. To use this feature, prefix the args with `wendy` and they'll\nbe passed through from grunt to casper. E.g.\n\n    grunt wendy:myTests --wendy-somearg --wendy-server=http://my.dev --baz=z\n\nWill pass the args to casper as if you had run the command:\n\n    casper test --somearg --server=http://my.dev myTests/\n\nNote that the `wendy` is removed, and args not beginning with wendy, like `baz`\nwere not included.\n\n### Options\n\n#### Async\n\nTasks are run in series by default (one after the other). To change how tests\nare run, set the async option to a node async compatible value such as:\n\n- `each` - run in parallel\n- `eachSeries` - run in series\n\n```javascript\nwendy: {\n  options: {\n    async: 'each'\n  },\n  inparallel: ['tests/e2e/a/*.js'],\n  inparallel2: ['tests/e2e/b/*.js']\n}\n```\n\n#### Node child_process options\n\nThe task spawns casperJs binary instances as child processes of node. The raw\n`child_process.exec` options can be modified with the `spawnOpts` task option:\n\n```javascript\nwendy: {\n  options: {\n    spawnOpts: {\n      cwd: '../',\n      env: {\n        SERVER:   'QA',\n        API_KEY:  'abc123'\n      },\n    }\n  },\n  inparallel: ['tests/e2e/a/*.js'],\n  inparallel2: ['tests/e2e/b/*.js']\n}\n```\n\nOf note is that you can change where you're running CasperJS from, e.g.\nin case your `node_modules/` folder is for some reason not at the root of your\nproject and you want to run CasperJS from a different directory to so you can\nrequire those modules.\n\nMost likely you won't need this or will just want the `env` key values.\n\n#### CLI Options\n\nCasperJS CLI options (including user defined ones) can be passed in using\n'cli' in the options object\n\n```javascript\nwendy: {\n  options: {\n    cli: ['--foo=bar', '--no-colors']\n  },\n  files: ['tests/e2e/**/*.js']\n}\n```\n\nSee also [Reading CLI options from grunt](#reading-cli-options-from-grunt).\n\n#### Runner\n\nThe task uses [casper's included test runner] by default. If you'd like to use\na custom runner, casper allows this. Specify a new test runner JS file to the\n`runner` option and wendy will hook it up.\n\n```javascript\nwendy: {\n  options: {\n    runner: 'tests/e2e-runner.js'\n  },\n  files: ['tests/e2e/**/*.js']\n}\n```\n\n#### Formatter\n\nThis task captures all casper output and allows formatting of that output.\nThe formatter can be customized by passing in a function like so:\n\n```javascript\nwendy: {\n  options: {\n    formatter: function (grunt, options, data) {\n      grunt.log.write(data);\n    }\n  },\n  files: ['tests/e2e/**/*.js']\n}\n```\n\nThe `data` argument is always a string, a line from casper's stdout or stderr.\n\nThe default formatter uses the `clean` option as well. See its source here for\nan example: [formatter.js]\n\n#### Formatter Options\n\nThis task tries to clean up the casper output whitespace and outputs aggregated\ntest results when multiple suites (multiple files) are run in a single task.\n\n**If you change the `formatter` this option may not apply.**\n\n- `whitespace`: boolean -- true to clean up casper whitespace\n- `filter`: regex -- anything that matches this filter will not be output\n\n```javascript\nwendy: {\n  options: {\n    formatterOptions: {\n      // don't try to clean up whitespace\n      whitespace: false,\n\n      // don't output lines saying 'Test file:' name and the suite summary\n      filter: /(Test file:)|(tests executed)/\n    }\n  },\n  tests: ['tests/e2e/**/*.js']\n}\n```\n\n#### Grunt exit status\n\nInstead of failing on dubious tests or passing when tests are skipped, this\ntask only fails when a test actually fails. You can go back to default grunt\nbehavior, or customize your own using the `fail` and `warn` options.\nThe options take an array with values `passed`, `failed`, `dubious`, and\n`skipped`.\n\n```javascript\nwendy: {\n  options: {\n    fail: ['failed'], // fail the task if any tests failed\n    warn: ['dubious'] // grunt warning when tests dubious\n  },\n  files: ['tests/e2e/**/*.js']\n}\n```\n\n## Contributing\n\nIn lieu of a formal styleguide, take care to maintain the existing coding style.\nAdd unit tests for any new or changed functionality. Lint and test your code\nusing [Grunt].\n\nFollow the standards of the included eslint and markdownlint.\n\n## CHANGELOG\n\n- 3.0.4\n    - bump all dependencies\n- 3.0.3\n    - bump casperjs to 1.1.1\n- 3.0.2\n    - Update deps to latest stables\n- 3.0.1\n    - Fix require!\n- 3.0.0\n    - Update deps\n- 2.2.1\n    - Update deps\n- 2.2.0\n    - Expose node child_process spawn opts as a task option.\n- 2.1.1\n    - License update\n- 2.1.0\n    - Add custom cli flag support, passing `--wendy` cli flags to casper\n- 2.0.0\n    - fix travis build by installing phantom, major bump\n- 1.0.5\n    - phantomjs is now a peer dependency\n- 1.0.4\n    - Ensure utf-8 output on process.stdout.write\n- 1.0.3\n    - Don't need lodash, removed\n- 1.0.2\n    - Logo :p\n- 1.0.1\n    - Readme update\n- 1.0.0\n    - Change `clean` to `formatterOptions.whitespace`\n    - Add `filter` to formatterOptions\n- 0.0.6\n    - Add `fail` and `warn` options\n- 0.0.5\n    - Add `formatter` option\n- 0.0.4\n    - Use `grunt.util.linefeed` for better Windows output\n- 0.0.3\n    - Add test for dubious output\n    - Fix aggregated output (skipped and dubious showing same result)\n- 0.0.2\n    - Split into modules in `lib/`\n- 0.0.1\n    - Forked from [ronaldlokers/grunt-casperjs]\n    - Refactor into single grunt task module\n    - Rename task from `casperjs` to `wendy`\n    - Changed `casperjsOptions` option key to `cli`\n    - Add support for custom runner\n    - Always use `silent` option from unpublished release of casperjs\n    - Expose node async settings\n    - parse casper output and show aggregated results for a set of files\n      if `clean` option is true (default)\n\n----\n\n[Grunt]: http://gruntjs.com/\n[Getting Started]: http://gruntjs.com/getting-started\n[Gruntfile]: http://gruntjs.com/sample-gruntfile\n[ronaldlokers/grunt-casperjs]: https://github.com/ronaldlokers/grunt-casperjs\n[ronaldlokers]: https://github.com/ronaldlokers/grunt-casperjs\n[custom casper test runners]: http://casperjs.readthedocs.org/en/latest/testing.html#extending-casper-for-testing\n[casper's included test runner]: https://github.com/n1k0/casperjs/blob/master/tests/run.js\n[formatter.js]: https://github.com/davidosomething/grunt-wendy/blob/master/tasks/lib/formatter.js\n\n[davidBadge]:       https://david-dm.org/davidosomething/grunt-wendy.png?theme=shields.io\n[davidLink]:        https://david-dm.org/davidosomething/grunt-wendy#info=dependencies\n[davidDevBadge]:    https://david-dm.org/davidosomething/grunt-wendy/dev-status.png?theme=shields.io\n[davidDevLink]:     https://david-dm.org/davidosomething/grunt-wendy#info=devDependencies\n[nodeiBadge]:       https://nodei.co/npm/grunt-wendy.png\n[nodeiLink]:        https://nodei.co/npm/grunt-wendy/\n[travisLink]:       https://travis-ci.org/davidosomething/grunt-wendy\n[travisBadge]:      https://travis-ci.org/davidosomething/grunt-wendy.svg?branch=master\n[upstreamBadge]:    https://img.shields.io/badge/upstream-GitHub-lightgrey.svg\n[upstreamLink]:     https://github.com/davidosomething/grunt-wendy\n[versionBadge]:     https://badge.fury.io/js/grunt-wendy.svg\n[versionLink]:      https://badge.fury.io/js/grunt-wendy\n","project_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Fdavidosomething%2Fgrunt-wendy","html_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/projects/github.com%2Fdavidosomething%2Fgrunt-wendy","lists_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Fdavidosomething%2Fgrunt-wendy/lists"}
