Loveseat\nLoveseat, a simple couchdb benchmarking tool, provides you with one-on-one time for you and couchdb.\n\n## Installation\n\n```\npip install loveseat\n```\n\n## Usage\n\n```\nloveseat mysuitefile.json\n```\n\n## Suitefiles\n\nSuitefiles tell what tests loveseat should run. There are currently three different types of tests: read, all_docs, and view.\n\nBelow is a generic template for a suite:\n\n```\n{\n    \"suite\": \"Example Suite\",\n    \"slug\": \"example_suite\",\n    \"tests\": [\n        {\n            \"name\": \"My test name\",\n            \"test\": \"read\", // (view|read|all_docs)\n            \"databases\": [\"http://localhost:5984/commcarehq\"] // databases to run tests against\n            \"params\": {}, // Optional params to be appended to couchdb url\n            \"headers\": {}, // Any headers you wish to send along with the request\n            \"repeat\": 100, // Number of times this test is run\n            ... // Other args depending on the test\n        }\n    ]\n}\n\n```\n\n### read test\n\n```\n{\n    \"name\": \"My test name\",\n    \"test\": \"read\",\n    \"databases\": [\"http://localhost:5984/commcarehq\"]\n    \"params\": {},\n    \"repeat\": 100,\n    \"ids\": [] // ids of docs to read\n}\n```\n### all_docs test\n```\n{\n    \"name\": \"My test name\",\n    \"test\": \"all_docs\",\n    \"databases\": [\"http://localhost:5984/commcarehq\"]\n    \"params\": { // may be prudent to apply params when testing all_docs depending on db size\n        startkey: \"\",\n        endkey: \"\"\n    },\n    \"repeat\": 100,\n}\n```\n### view test\n```\n{\n    \"name\": \"My test name\",\n    \"test\": \"view\",\n    \"databases\": [\"http://localhost:5984/commcarehq\"]\n    \"params\": {},\n    \"repeat\": 100,\n    \"view\": \"_design/app_manager/_view/applications\" // view to test the database on\n}\n```\n\nYou can view an example in `tests/data/test_suite.json`\n\n### Advanced database configuration\n\nSometimes couch requires some extra parameters to connect to a database. Loveseat allows you to set custom headers and paramters to any database you list. Example:\n\n```\n{\n    \"name\": \"My test name\",\n    \"test\": \"view\",\n    \"databases\": [\n        \"http://localhost:5984/commcarehq\",\n        { \"url\": \"http://another/db\", \"params\": {...}, \"headers\": {...}, \"slug\": \"human name\" }\n    ]\n    \"params\": {},\n    \"headers\": {}\n    ...\n}\n```\n\nNow loveseat knows to use those parameters when calling that database. Internally loveseat takes the string database parameters and turns them into an object, using the higher level `params` and `headers` keys as defaults. So, if you have this structure:\n\n```\n{\n    \"name\": \"My test name\",\n    \"test\": \"view\",\n    \"databases\": [\n        \"http://localhost:5984/commcarehq\",\n        { \"url\": \"http://another/db\", \"headers\": { \"my\": \"header\" } }\n    ]\n    \"params\": { \"my\": \"param\" },\n    \"headers\": { \"other\": \"header\" }\n    ...\n}\n```\n\nThen the resulting database configuration for `http://another/db` would be:\n\n```\n{\n    \"url\": \"http://another/db\",\n    \"headers\": { \"my\": \"header\" },\n    \"params\": { \"my\": \"param\" }\n}\n```\nThis allows you to easily specify multiple databases without have to rewrite a bunch of configuration.\n\n## Roadmap\n\n- More metrics\n- 'write' tests\n- Better test coverage\n- Sensible error handling\n- Weird behavior when sending loads of requests at once\n","project_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Fdimagi%2Floveseat","html_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/projects/github.com%2Fdimagi%2Floveseat","lists_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Fdimagi%2Floveseat/lists"}
