BSPM - The BSPWM Manager ![CI Status](https://github.com/diogox/bspm/workflows/CI/badge.svg)\n\n`bspm` is a tool meant to patch some of `bspwm`'s shortcomings.\n\nHere are its features:\n* **Transparent Monocle Mode** - If you've used `bspwm`'s monocle mode with any sort of window transparency, \n  you've probably noticed that you can see your other open windows in the background. This is not ideal. \n  And so, `bspm` solves it! Just make sure to replace your existing hotkeys with the appropriate `bspm` commands, \n  and you're good to go!\n  \n* **More Coming (Hopefully) Soon!**\n\n## Usage\n\nFirst things first: To use `bspm`, you need to launch its daemon.\n\nSimply add this to your `bspwmrc` and you'll have it up and running at startup:\n```shell\nbspm -d \u0026\n```\n\n### Transparent Monocle Mode\n\nAll commands are prefixed with the subcommand `monocle`.\n\n#### Actions\nToggle this mode for the desktop you're currently on:\n```shell\nbspm monocle --toggle\n```\n\nCycle to the next node:\n```shell\nbspm monocle --next\n```\n\nCycle to the previous node:\n```shell\nbspm monocle --prev\n```\n\n#### Subscriptions\nSubscriptions are useful to create interactions with bspm's state.\n\nYou can, for example, setup your status bar to show an icon when monocle mode is active, and how many nodes are open.\n\nSubscribe to number of nodes in the current desktop's monocle mode (number also updates as desktop focus changes):\n```shell\nbspm monocle --subscribe-node-count\n```\n*This will return `-1` if monocle mode is disabled. \nBear in mind that a desktop in monocle mode can still have `0` nodes.*\n\nThat's it!\n\n---\n\n**Caution**: The `bspc node -k` command [will break this mode](https://github.com/diogox/bspm/issues/9).\nYou can resume it simply by toggling it off and on again.\nTo avoid this, you can replace that command in your `sxhkdrc` with one of the following:\n* `xdo kill`\n* `xdotool getwindowfocus windowkill`\n* `xkill -id $(xprop -root _NET_ACTIVE_WINDOW | cut -d\\# -f2)` (Not pretty, I know)\n\nYou'll need to have the necessary dependencies installed for whatever command you choose.\n\n---\n\n**A few tips:**: \n\n* To be able to use `j` and `k` to cycle between nodes in this mode and still be able to use those keys \nin `tiled` mode, you can use the following snippet in your `sxhkdrc`:\n```\nsuper + j\n\tbspm monocle --prev || bspc node -f south\nsuper + k\n\tbspm monocle --next || bspc node -f north\n```\n\n* To get an indicator in Polybar for whether or not transparent monocle mode is activated in the currently focused desktop, \n and how many nodes are in it, use a script like this one:\n```sh\n#!/bin/bash\n\nbspm monocle --subscribe-node-count | while read -r n_nodes; do\n\tif [[ $n_nodes == \"-1\" ]]\n\tthen \n\t\techo \" \" \n\telse \n\t\techo \"M[$n_nodes]\"\n\tfi\ndone \n```\nAnd then have a Polybar module like: (and enable it for your bar)\n```\n[module/bspm-monocle]\ntype = custom/script\nexec = path_to_script.sh\ntail = true\n```\n\n---\n\n*A special thanks to [ortango](https://github.com/ortango) for his contributions in perfecting `bspm`.*","project_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Fdiogox%2Fbspm","html_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/projects/github.com%2Fdiogox%2Fbspm","lists_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Fdiogox%2Fbspm/lists"}
