It\nsupports the `.C`, `.Call` and `.Fortran` calling conventions.\n\n### History\n\nThe package was originally written while Oleg Sklyar was at\n[EMBL-EBI](https://www.ebi.ac.uk/).  It was then extended by Dirk\nEddelbuettel and Romain Francois for use by\n[Rcpp](https://dirk.eddelbuettel.com/code/rcpp.html). Years later, Karline\nSoetaert added support for Fortran.
