vim-elixir\n\n[![Build Status](https://travis-ci.org/elixir-editors/vim-elixir.svg?branch=master)](https://travis-ci.org/elixir-editors/vim-elixir)\n\n[Elixir](http://elixir-lang.org) support for vim\n\n## Description\n\nFeatures:\n\n* Syntax highlighting for Elixir and EEx files\n* Filetype detection for `.ex`, `.exs`, `.eex`, `.heex`, `.leex`, and `.sface` files\n* Automatic indentation\n* Integration between Ecto projects and [vim-dadbod][] for running SQL queries\n  on defined Ecto repositories\n\n## Installation\n\n`vim-elixir` can be installed either with a plugin manager or by directly copying the files into your vim folders (location varies between platforms)\n\n### Plugin Managers\n\nIf you are using a plugin manager then add `vim-elixir` the way you would any other plugin:\n\n```bash\n# Using vim 8 native package loading\n#   http://vimhelp.appspot.com/repeat.txt.html#packages\ngit clone https://github.com/elixir-editors/vim-elixir.git ~/.vim/pack/my-packages/start/vim-elixir\n\n# Using pathogen\ngit clone https://github.com/elixir-editors/vim-elixir.git ~/.vim/bundle/vim-elixir\n```\n\n```viml\n\" Using vim-plug\nPlug 'elixir-editors/vim-elixir'\n\n\" Using Vundle\nPlugin 'elixir-editors/vim-elixir'\n\n\" Using NeoBundle\nNeoBundle 'elixir-editors/vim-elixir'\n```\n\n### Manual Installation\n\nIf you are not using a package manager then you can use the provided `manual_install.sh` script to copy the files into their respective homes.\n\nRun [./manual_install.sh](manual_install.sh) to copy the contents of each directory in the respective directories inside `~/.vim`.\n\n## Configuration\n\nYou must add the following to your `~/.vimrc`:\n\n```\n\" Enable syntax highlighting\nsyntax on\n\n\" Enables filetype detection, loads ftplugin, and loads indent\n\" (Not necessary on nvim and may not be necessary on vim 8.2+)\nfiletype plugin indent on\n```\n\n## Notes/Caveats\n\n### `mix format` Integration\n\nWe've decided not to include `mix format` integration into `vim-elixir`.\nIf you'd like to set it up yourself, you have the following options:\n\n* For asynchronous execution of the formatter, have a look at [vim-mix-format](https://github.com/mhinz/vim-mix-format)\n* Add it as a `formatprg` (e.g. `setlocal formatprg=mix\\ format\\ -`)\n\nWhy isn't this supported? We've run into two major issues with calling out to `mix format`.\nFirst `mix format` would not work unless your program compiled.\nSecond `mix format` added an external process dependency to `vim-elixir`.\n\nIf someone really wanted to try and add this then we might be able to model it after `vim-go`'s `go fmt` integration\nwhich I think could be acceptable to merge into master.\n\n## Development\n\n### Maintenance Help\n\n`vim-elixir` is looking for new maintainers.\nIf you get a lot of value from it, know vimscript well, or eager to learn about it then feel free to get in touch with @jbodah (GH issue, elixir-lang Slack)\n\n### Running the Tests\n\nThe tests depend on having Ruby installed.\nThey also depend on a GUI vim (gvim, mvim) with server support.\nIf you do not have gvim or mvim in your PATH then you can create a `.gvim_path` file in the vim-elixir root directory which specifies the path to the GUI vim executable.\n\nTo run the tests: `bundle exec parallel_rspec spec`\n\n### Developing in Docker\n\nYou can spawn a container with vim and your development configs using `bin/vim` or `bin/nvim`\n\n### Debugging Indent\n\n```\n# Open vim in a container loading this plugin\nbin/vim myfile.ex\n\n# Debug statements should be configured to print automatically\n# Write/indent some code\n:messages\n\n# You should see output like the following:\n#   ==\u003e Indenting line 3\n#   text = '    _ -\u003e :wowo'\n#   testing handler elixir#indent#handle_top_of_file\n#   testing handler elixir#indent#handle_starts_with_string_continuation\n#   testing handler elixir#indent#handle_following_trailing_binary_operator\n#   testing handler elixir#indent#handle_starts_with_pipe\n#   testing handler elixir#indent#handle_starts_with_binary_operator\n#   testing handler elixir#indent#handle_inside_block\n#   pattern matching relative to lnum 2\n#   current line contains -\u003e; assuming match definition\n#   line 3: elixir#indent#handle_inside_block returned 4\n#   1 change; before #1  4 seconds ago\n#\n# This tells you which line is being inspected as well as which handlers are being run\n# and which branches are being exercised by those handlers\n```\n\n### Feature Wishlist\n\nHere is a list of features that I think would be great additions to `vim-elixir`:\n\n* Regularly merging `vim-elixir` into `vim` and keeping the sync up-to-date\n* Fixing our build so it can run regularly on CI\n* Live view support\n* Testing .exs files and ensuring feature compatibility between .ex and .exs\n* Documentation (e.g. `:h vim-elixir`)\n* README docs for various .vimrc options/flags\n* Identifying and rewriting tests that conflict with `mix format`\n* Fixes for indentation rule edge cases (e.g. `with`, see GH issues for examples)\n* Simplifying syntax rules\n* Performance optimizations for syntax/indent rules (especially for determining if something is a string)\n\n[vim-dadbod]: https://github.com/tpope/vim-dadbod\n","project_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Felixir-editors%2Fvim-elixir","html_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/projects/github.com%2Felixir-editors%2Fvim-elixir","lists_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Felixir-editors%2Fvim-elixir/lists"}
