We designed and implemented a general system and API for connecting nodes speaking a sample language and let them communicate over logical channels with different transport methods e.g. (real time) Ethernet, UDP, TCP or sneakernet.\r\n\r\n**Tech stack:** Embedded C, Shell scripting, C++, GNU Linux, Robot Operating System, FreeRTOS, lwIP, CUnit, GDB, GNU\r\nMake, Clang, LATEX, Git, SVN, Doxygen\r\n\r\n\r\n## What is Firefly?\r\n\u003cimg src=\"doc/concept-slides.png\" alt=\"Concept slide\" width=\"50%\"\u003e\r\n\r\nLegend:\u003cbr\u003e\r\n\u003cimg src=\"doc/concept-slides-legend.png\" alt=\"Concept slide legend\" width=\"30%\"\u003e\r\n\r\n\r\nFirefly is a framework and protocol that is used to communicate serialized data\r\nbetween two nodes. It builds upon the Labcomm protocol, which is by design a one\r\nway protocol, and extends it to enable two way communication over different\r\ntransport medium.\r\n\r\nThe protocol specification is fairly simple by design to avoid any overhead when\r\nused in a setting with real time demands. There is a BNF-description of the\r\nprotocol.\r\n\r\nThere are reference implementations for three different application examples as\r\nwell as four different transport mediums (UDP and Ethernet on Posix and\r\nFreeRTOS/Stellaris).\r\n\r\n## WARNING\r\nThe library's interface is still not set in stone and very prone to changes.
