This file provides information deemed useful\nwhen committing changes to that page.\n\n## Dependencies\n\nThe rendering infrastructure for software.es.net is based on what's in the\nesnet-gh-pages-base repo, and the software dependencies are in fact\nthe same.  Primarily this means installing Sphinx, a Python\ndocumentation tool.  The Sphinx installation steps below are copied\nfrom the esnet-gh-pages-base documentation:\n\n### Sphinx Installation using Mac OS X Base Python\n\n1. ```sudo /usr/bin/easy_install pip```\n2. ```sudo /usr/local/bin/pip install sphinx sphinx-bootstrap-theme```\n\n### Sphinx Installation using MacPorts\n\n1. ```sudo port install python27 py27-pip py27-sphinx```\n2. ```sudo port select pip py27-pip```\n3. ```sudo port select sphinx py27-sphinx```\n4. ```pip install sphinx sphinx-bootstrap-theme```\n\nIn general, building the HTML and previewing works the same as for any\nother ESnet software project using the esnet-gh-pages-base\ninfrastructure.\n\n## Updates\n\nA major difference between this repo and project documentation sites\nis that for project documentation sites, the document sources live in\na subdirectory on the master branch and get deployed to the gh-pages\nbranch of the repo.  For this repo, the document sources live in the\npage-source branch of this repo and they get deployed to the master\nbranch.\n\n1.  ```git clone git@github.com:esnet/esnet.github.io.git```\n2.  ```git branch page-source```\n3.  Edit ```docs/index.rst```.  This file is in ReStructured Text\n    format (see http://www.sphinx-doc.org/en/stable/rest.html for\n    details).\n4.  ```make html```\n5.  Preview the result at ```_build/html/index.html``` (the MacOS open\n    command will open this page in the default Web browser)\n6.  Commit and push the changes to the page sources.\n7.  To deploy, make a tarball of the HTML tree:  ```tar -c -C docs/_build/html -f /tmp/software.tar .```\n8.  Switch back to the master branch with ```git branch master```\n9.  Unpack the tarball you just made:  ```tar -xvf /tmp/software.tar```\n10.  Commit and push the deployed HTML pages.  After this point they'll\n    show up (shortly?) at http://software.es.net/.
