changeline\nSearch and replace in lines of files across directories.\n\nChangeline is your basic file search and replace. But it goes beyond regular\nexpressions and paths. You must submit a list of files via STDIN, so it is up to you\nto select a directory scan program. You can use UNIX find with a *.html wildcard for example.\n\nFurthermore, there is no question about matches spanning lines. Changeline simply sees one line at a time. It uses node readline under the hood.\n\nFinally, changeline is a precision device aimed at altering lines of code without\nthe need for AST processing. You can for example target CSS Class Names in .css/.html\nand .js/es6 files, and it will plow through ES7 and CSS4 and whatever else comes its way.\n\n## Installation\n[changeline](https://www.npmjs.com/package/changeline) is a command line program, and it is installed via [npm](https://www.npmjs.com) which comes along with [node](https://nodejs.org).\nPlease install [node](https://nodejs.org) first, and then run ```npm install -g changeline``` to get changeline onto your system.\n\n## Usage\n\nAfter installation via ```npm install -g changeline``` you should begin by\npiping in a list of files separated by a new line.\nExample of making a dynamic list ```find . -name example.html -print```\nor ```cat my-files-to-change.txt```\nwhere my-files-to-change.txt contains a list of full paths to files needing changes.\n\nUpon a list of paths arriving via STDIN changeline will apply functions to test,\nand replace data. See test-transformers.js for a more serious example.\n\n    module.exports = [\n      // JS\n      {\n        description: \"Update bark to meow.\",\n        search: function(line){ if(line === 'bark') return true; },\n        replace: function(line){ return 'meow' },\n      },\n      // ES6\n      {\n        description: \"Update Bort to Bart.\",\n        search: line =\u003e line === 'Bort',\n        replace: line =\u003e 'Bart',\n      },\n    ]\n\n\n\nUsage: changeline [options]\n\n    Options:\n\n      -h, --help                 output usage information\n      -V, --version              output the version number\n\n      -v, --verbose              Make changeline verbose\n\nThe CAS backup concept is similar to [Content Addressable Storage](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Content-addressable_storage) prior to\naltering a file a copy is saved in ~/.changeline a simple index keeps track of\nhashes, timestamps and original file locations.\n\n      -c, --cas                  Make cas backup before replacement. (recommended)\n      --cas-home [path]          Path of cas backups (optional)\n\nA plain old filename.ext.bak is available as well.\n      -b, --backup               Make backup before replacement. (optional)\n      --backup-extension [ext]   Extension to use for backup files (optional)\n\nYou must use the -r/-t flags to do useful things:\n\n      -r, --replace              Perform replacement (required for actual replacement)\n      -t, --transformers [path]  Transformer module. (required for specifying what to replace)\n\nThe transformer format is ES6 by default and very easy to manage:\n\n    module.exports = [\n      {\n        description: \"Update Bort to Bart.\",\n        search: line =\u003e line === 'Bort', // return truthy value to trigger replace\n        replace: line =\u003e 'Bart', // return updated line content\n      },\n    ]\n\n\n## Features and Concepts\n\nChangeline accepts a list of files from the command line via STDIN.\nThis means you can use operating system utilities for file search.\nexample: find . -name test.html -print | changeline -t transformers.js -r -c;\n\nChangeline uses es6 functions for searching an replacing, see transformers.js\n\nChangeline makes backups see --help\n\n## Snippets\n\nA quick non-destructive one-liner, run it in changeline's directory:\n\n```cp test.html test-tmp.html; echo -e \"\\nBEFORE\"; cat test-tmp.html; echo; find . -name test-tmp.html -print | ./index.js -v -r -c -t ./test-transformers.js; echo -e \"\\nAFTER\"; cat test-tmp.html; echo; rm test-tmp.html;```\n\n## Links\n\nnpm: https://www.npmjs.com/package/changeline  \ngithub: https://github.com/fantasyui-com/changeline\n\n## MIT License\n\nWritten by Captain Fantasy, Copyright (c) 2016 FantasyUI\n","project_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Ffantasyui-com%2Fchangeline","html_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/projects/github.com%2Ffantasyui-com%2Fchangeline","lists_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Ffantasyui-com%2Fchangeline/lists"}
