It provides tools for gravity corrections like Bouguer and\nterrain effects; interpolations and upward continuation through equivalent\nsources; Fourier domain filters like vertical derivatives, upward continuation\nand reduction to the pole; forward modelling of geometries like prisms, point\nsources and tesseroids (a.k.a spherical prisms); and more.\nBoule hosts reference ellipsoids useful for applying coordinate\nconversions and normal gravity calculations.\nVerde offers tools for processing and interpolating any type of spatial data\nthrough a diverse set of methods, with a machine learning inspired approach.\nPooch eases the process of downloading and caching data from the web with\na very simple interface. Lastly, Ensaio offers a set of curated open-licensed\ndatasets useful for teaching, practicing and probing our codes.\n\nThe project started in 2010 in South America as a simple Python library as part\nof a PhD Thesis, and has since growth to include a global community of\ncontributors. Its progress has been facilitated by a consistent effort of\nmeeting the highest standards in software development. Through the adoption of\nbest practices and a thoughtful design of its tools, the project provides well\ntested and well documented code that is easy to use, regardless of the Python\nskills of its users. This has led the project to be used in real world\napplications like scientific research and geophysical exploration within\nindustry and academia.\n\nDuring this talk we'll provide an overview of the tools in the Fatiando\nproject, demonstrate their functionalities using examples from research and\nindustry applications, and take a look at some code snippets to showcase its\ncapabilities and ease of use.\nWe will also take the opportunity to discuss upcoming developments, our roadmap\nfor the future and plans for implementing highly requested features.\n\n## About the speaker\n\nSantiago Soler is an Argentinian Physicist and PhD in Geophysics.\nHis research is centered on the application of potential fields to geophysical\nproblems, and mainly focused on the development of new methodologies for\nprocessing and modelling gravity and magnetic fields.\nExamples of these are the forward modelling of tesseroids (spherical prisms)\nwith variable density, and the gradient-boosted equivalent sources technique,\nthat allows interpolating gridding and upward continuing very large datasets of\ngravity and magnetic fields.\nIn parallel to his research, he is committed to contribute to open-source\nscientific software and open science initiatives.\nHe is one of the core developers of the Fatiando a Terra project: a collection\nof open-source Python libraries for geosciences.\nNowadays, he works as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of\nBritish Columbia, under the supervision of Dr. Lindsey Heagy and within the\nGeophysical Inversion Facility group.\nHis current research aims to characterize serpentinized rock deposits using\njoint inversions of gravity and magnetic data in order to assess their\npotential for carbon sequestration.\nHe continues contributing to the open-source geoscientific ecosystem by\nparticipating in the development of Fatiando a Terra and SimPEG, a Python\nframework for geophysical inversions.\n\n\n## License\n\nThis work is licensed under a\n[Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License][cc-by].\n\n[![CC BY 4.0][cc-by-image]][cc-by]\n\n[cc-by]: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/\n[cc-by-image]: https://i.creativecommons.org/l/by/4.0/88x31.png\n[cc-by-shield]: https://img.shields.io/badge/License-CC%20BY%204.0-lightgrey.svg\n","project_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Ffatiando%2F2023-kegs","html_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/projects/github.com%2Ffatiando%2F2023-kegs","lists_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Ffatiando%2F2023-kegs/lists"}
