The default source is the 2019 [World Bank](https://data.worldbank.org/indicator/SP.POP.TOTL) estimates, but there are exceptions for some countries, so make sure you provide a complete list of any exceptions that apply to your story.\n\n* US state and county populations are the [US Census Bureau’s 2019 population estimates](https://www.census.gov/data/datasets/time-series/demo/popest/2010s-counties-total.html). Puerto Rico municipalities data comes from the [US Census Bureau’s 2019 population estimates for Puerto Rico](https://www.census.gov/data/tables/time-series/demo/popest/2010s-detail-puerto-rico-municipios.html).
