The material complements that of the FutureLearn MOOC\non [\"Defensive programming and debugging\"](https://www.futurelearn.com/courses/defensive-programming-and-debugging).\n\nThis is an online resource for defensive programming and debugging.  You will\nfind material on\n* coding best practices\n* error handling\n* defensive programming\n* documenting your code\n* unit and functional testing\n* debuggers (gdb, valgrind)\n* taxonomy of bugs\n* references and further reading\n\nThis is mainly aimed at scientific and high performance computing, so examples\nare given for C, C++ and Fortran.  However, the principles are very similar for\nother programming languages.\n\n## Source code\n\nSource code illustrating various kinds of bugs and the use of tools can be found in\nthe [source code directory](source_code/).\n\n## Contributions\n\nThis is work in progress, and you are welcome to [contribute](CONTRIBUTING.md).
