The curriculum covers foundation concepts of JavaScript programming and basic computer science. The goal of this workshop is to establish a technical knowledge base for our participants to continue building upon in their careers. While this is a beginner-level course, the curriculum is expansive and highly technical. Participants of all experience levels should come prepared to be challenged.\n\n## Pre-requisites\n\nYou should be familiar with basic HTML and CSS. A pre-course primer on JavaScript will also help you succeed. You can pursue free lessons on these subjects at [dash.generalassemb.ly](http://dash.generalassemb.ly).\n\n## Takeaways\n- Foundation concepts of computer science.\n- Intermediate-level concepts of the JavaScript programming language.\n- Foundation knowledge of how JavaScript makes the web interactive.\n\n## Day 1: Fundamentals\n\nOur first session will cover the basics of computer science, using JavaScript as our language of study. For participants with past programming experience, this cirriculum will be generally familiar.\n\n**Morning**\n\n - Introduction\n - JavaScript Fundamentals\n   - Datatypes\n   - Variables\n   - Conditionals\n   - Arrays \u0026 Objects\n   - Enumeration\n   - Passing Value vs. Reference\n\n**Afternoon**\n\n - Simple Functions\n - Intro to DOM\n   - Selecting elements\n   - Reading and writing document data\n   - Binding event handlers\n - Lab exercises\n\n## Day 2: Functions \u0026 Object-Orientation\n\nOur second session will deep-dive into the exceptionally unique aspect of JavaScript: Functions. The concepts discussed here are significantly more advanced than those in session-1, so participants should come prepared to be challenged.\n\n**Morning**\n\n - Introduction\n - **Part 1: Basic Functions**\n   - Arguments \u0026 Return\n   - The \"arguments\" Object\n   - Invocation vs. Reference\n   - Declaration vs. Assignment\n   - Functions as First-Class Objects\n - **Part 2: Closure \u0026 Scope**\n   - What is Closure?\n   - What is Scope?\n   - Declarations \u0026 Scope Chain\n   - Hoisting\n - Scope exercises\n\n**Afternoon**\n\n - **Part 3: Contextual Invocation**\n   - What is \"this\"?\n   - Function Invocation\n   - Call Invocation\n   - Method Invocation\n - **Part 4: Prototypal Inheritance**\n   - Constructor Invocation\n   - Prototype Chains\n   - Using \"hasOwnProperty\"\n   - Using \"typeof\" and \"instanceof\"\n - Invocation exercises\n","funding_links":[],"categories":[],"sub_categories":[],"project_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Fgmac%2Fprofessional-javascript","html_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/projects/github.com%2Fgmac%2Fprofessional-javascript","lists_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Fgmac%2Fprofessional-javascript/lists"}
