middleware](http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc2617) for Go. It is compatible with Go's own `net/http`, [goji](https://goji.io), Gin \u0026 anything that speaks the `http.Handler` interface.\n\n## Example\n\n`httpauth` provides a `SimpleBasicAuth` function to get you up and running. Particularly ideal for development servers.\n\nNote that HTTP Basic Authentication credentials are sent over the wire \"in the clear\" (read: plaintext!) and therefore should not be considered a robust way to secure a HTTP server. If you're after that, you'll need to use SSL/TLS (\"HTTPS\") at a minimum.\n\n### Install It\n\n```sh\n$ go get github.com/goji/httpauth\n```\n\n### Goji v2\n\n#### Simple Usage\n\nThe fastest and simplest way to get started using `httpauth` is to use the\n`SimpleBasicAuth` function.\n\n```go\n\npackage main\n\nimport(\n    \"net/http\"\n\n    \"goji.io\"\n)\n\nfunc main() {\n    mux := goji.NewMux()\n\n    mux.Use(httpauth.SimpleBasicAuth(\"dave\", \"somepassword\"))\n    mux.Use(SomeOtherMiddleware)\n\n    // YourHandler now requires HTTP Basic Auth\n    mux.Handle(pat.Get(\"/some-route\"), YourHandler))\n\n    log.Fatal(http.ListenAndServe(\"localhost:8000\", mux))\n}\n```\n\n#### Advanced Usage\n\nFor more control over the process, pass a `AuthOptions` struct to `BasicAuth` instead. This allows you to:\n\n* Configure the authentication realm.\n* Provide your own UnauthorizedHandler (anything that satisfies `http.Handler`) so you can return a better looking 401 page.\n* Define a custom authentication function, which is discussed in the next section.\n\n```go\n\nfunc main() {\n\n    authOpts := httpauth.AuthOptions{\n        Realm: \"DevCo\",\n        User: \"dave\",\n        Password: \"plaintext!\",\n        UnauthorizedHandler: myUnauthorizedHandler,\n    }\n\n    mux := goji.NewMux()\n\n    mux.Use(BasicAuth(authOpts))\n    mux.Use(SomeOtherMiddleware)\n\n    mux.Handle(pat.Get(\"/some-route\"), YourHandler))\n\n    log.Fatal(http.ListenAndServe(\"localhost:8000\", mux))\n}\n```\n\n#### Custom Authentication Function\n\n`httpauth` will accept a custom authentication function.\nNormally, you would not set `AuthOptions.User` nor `AuthOptions.Password` in this scenario.\nYou would instead validate the given credentials against an external system such as a database.\nThe contrived example below is for demonstration purposes only.\n\n```go\nfunc main() {\n\n    authOpts := httpauth.AuthOptions{\n        Realm: \"DevCo\",\n        AuthFunc: myAuthFunc,\n        UnauthorizedHandler: myUnauthorizedHandler,\n    }\n\n    mux := goji.NewMux()\n\n    mux.Use(BasicAuth(authOpts))\n    mux.Use(SomeOtherMiddleware)\n\n    mux.Handle(pat.Get(\"/some-route\"), YourHandler))\n\n    log.Fatal(http.ListenAndServe(\"localhost:8000\", mux))\n}\n\n// myAuthFunc is not secure.
