Maintenance releases\nmay be published before the public archive date if necessary to address\nissues that may arise.\n\nThe Exposure Notifications Authors want to thank everyone who contributed\nto this project either directly or indirectly \n\n\n# Exposure Notification Reference Key Server\n\n[COVID‑19 Exposure Notifications API](https://www.google.com/covid19/exposurenotifications/)\n\n[Exposure Notification Reference Key Server Documentation](https://google.github.io/exposure-notifications-server/) \n\nIn our continued effort to help governments and health authorities during the\nCOVID-19 pandemic, we have authored an open source reference implementation of\nan Exposure Notification Key Server.\n\nThe server reference in this repository implements the Exposure Notifications\nAPI and provides reference code for working with Android and iOS apps that\nare built by public health authorities. The reference server source code is\navailable on GitHub and can be deployed on any infrastructure or cloud\nprovider selected by a public health authority.\n\nOur hope is by making this privacy-preserving server implementation available\nto health authorities, we can enable their developers to use the open source code\nto get started quickly.\n\n## Overview\n\nThe server is responsible for the following functions:\n\n* Accepting the temporary exposure keys of affected users from mobile devices.\n\n* Validating the temporary exposure keys using the device attestation API.\n\n* Storing the temporary exposure keys in a database.\n\n* Periodically generating incremental files that will be downloaded by mobile\n  devices to perform the key matching algorithm on the mobile device.\n\n* Sending a public key to devices, and digitally signing the incremental files with\n  a private key.\n\n* Periodically deleting old temporary exposure keys.
