The output is another valid XML feed.\n\n## What's included\n\n* a cli util;\n* a standalone http server that shares the same engine w/ the cli util.\n* a web client that uses the included server as an intermediary and\n  acts as a gui version of the cli util.\n\n## Requirements\n\n* node \u003e= 20\n\n## Setup\n\n    $ npm i -g grepfeed\n    $ grepfeed-server\n\nOpen http://127.0.0.0:3000 in a browser.\n\n## How it works\n\n`lib/feed.js` contains all the code that parses \u0026 transforms xml\nfeeds. Its core is `Grep` class--a Transform stream:\n\n    readable_stream.pipe(\u003cour filter\u003e).pipe(writable_stream)\n\n### cli\n\n`cli/grepfeed.js` extends `Grep` to override several methods where\nit's convenient to write the output in any format one wants. 3\ninterfaces are included: text-only (the default), json, xml. The\nlatter produces a valid rss 2.0 feed. E.g.\n\n    $ curl http://example.com/rss | cli/grepfeed.js apple -d=2016 -x\n\nparses the input feed, selects only articles written in 2016 or newer\nthat match the regexp pattern `/apple/`. `-x` means xml output.\n\n~~~\nUsage: grepfeed.js [opt] [PATTERN] \u003c xml\n\n  -e      print only articles w/ enclosures\n  -n NUM  number of articles to print\n  -x      xml output\n  -j      json output\n  -m      print only meta\n  -V      program version\n\nFilter by:\n\n  -d      [-]date[,date]\n  -c      categories\n\nOr/and search for a regexp PATTERN in each rss article \u0026 print the\nmatching ones. The internal order of the search: title, summary,\ndescription, author.\n\n  -v      invert match\n~~~\n\n### server\n\nActs as a proxy: downloads a requested feed \u0026 returns the filtered\nxml. Query params match `cli/grepfeed.js` command line interface. To\nstart a server, run\n\n    $ make\n    $ server/index.js\n\n(For a different host/port combination, use `HOST` \u0026 `PORT` env vars.)\n\nThis following example yields the same xml as in the `cli/grepfeed.js`\ncase, only does it through http:\n\n    $ curl '127.0.0.1:3000/api/?_=apple\u0026d=2016\u0026url=http%3A%2F%2Fexample.com%2Frss'\n\nNotice `d` means `-d` in the `cli/grepfeed.js` example, `-x` doesn't make\nsense here, `_` means the 1st command line arg, `apple` in this\ncase. The server doesn't invoke `cli/grepfeed.js` program; they both use\nminimist to parse command options, thus the perceived similarity in\nthe behaviour.\n\n### caveats\n\nA URL you'd like to filter must be reachable from within the machine\n`server/index.js` is running on. This could pose a security risk or be\ninconvenient if you want to filter XML from *your* LAN.
