[![site](https://img.shields.io/website-up-down-green-red/http/colorcet.holoviz.org.svg)](http://colorcet.holoviz.org) |\n\n\n## What is it?\n\nColorcet is a collection of\nperceptually uniform colormaps for use with Python plotting programs like\n[bokeh](http://bokeh.pydata.org),\n[matplotlib](http://matplotlib.org),\n[holoviews](http://holoviews.org), and\n[datashader](https://github.com/bokeh/datashader) based on the\nset of [perceptually uniform colormaps](https://arxiv.org/abs/1509.03700) created\nby Peter Kovesi at the Center for Exploration Targeting.\n\n\n## Installation\n\nColorcet supports Python 3.7 and greater on Linux, Windows, or Mac\nand can be installed with conda:\n\n```sh\nconda install colorcet\n```\n\nor with pip:\n\n```sh\npython -m pip install colorcet\n```\n\nTo work with JupyterLab you will also need the PyViz JupyterLab extension:\n\n```sh\nconda install -c conda-forge jupyterlab\njupyter labextension install @pyviz/jupyterlab_pyviz\n```\n\nOnce you have installed JupyterLab and the extension launch it with:\n\n```sh\njupyter-lab\n```\n\nIf you want to try out the latest features between releases, you can get the latest dev release by installing:\n\n```sh\nconda install -c pyviz/label/dev colorcet\n```\n\nFor more information take a look at [Getting Started](http://colorcet.holoviz.org/getting_started).\n\n## Learning more\n\nYou can see all the details about the methods used to create these\ncolormaps in [Peter Kovesi's 2015 arXiv\npaper](https://arxiv.org/pdf/1509.03700v1.pdf).  Other useful\nbackground is available in a [1996 paper from\nIBM](http://www.research.ibm.com/people/l/lloydt/color/color.HTM).\n\nThe Matplotlib project also has a number of relevant resources,\nincluding an excellent\n[2015 SciPy talk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xAoljeRJ3lU), the\n[viscm tool for creating maps like the four in mpl](https://github.com/matplotlib/viscm), the\n[cmocean site](http://matplotlib.org/cmocean/) collecting a set of maps created by viscm,\nand the [discussion of how the mpl maps were created](https://bids.github.io/colormap/).\n\n\n## Samples\n\nSome of the Colorcet colormaps that have short, memorable names (which are probably\nthe most useful ones) are visible here:\n\n\u003cimg src=\"./examples/assets/images/named.png\" width=\"800\"\u003e\n\nBut the complete set of 100+ is shown in the [User Guide](http://colorcet.holoviz.org/user_guide).\n","project_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Fholoviz%2Fcolorcet","html_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/projects/github.com%2Fholoviz%2Fcolorcet","lists_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Fholoviz%2Fcolorcet/lists"}
