If the author is being rude or disrespectful, it will encourage them to think twice, and give them a chance to rephrase their comment to be more kind before they submit it.\n\nGoogle's free [Perspective API](https://www.perspectiveapi.com/) is used to determine the characteristics of the comment, which means that all comments will be sent to their servers for analysis. You can optionally request that they not store your comments for their future research.\n\nThe Perspective API can only analyze comments written in English, Spanish, and French. Comments written in other languages will be accepted without any analysis or content warnings.\n\nThe inspiration for this comes from Tristan Harris' TED talk about [designing technology to reflect human values](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D55ctBYF3AY), and from [ReThink](http://www.rethinkwords.com/).\n\n## Example\n\n![Screenshot of a user being warned that their comment is mean](https://ps.w.org/compassionate-comments/assets/screenshot-1.png)\n\n## Setup\n\nIf you just want to **use** the plugin, you can [install the packaged version](https://wordpress.org/plugins/compassionate-comments/) from the WordPress.org plugin repository.\n\nIf you want to **contribute to** the plugin, then follow these steps to setup the development version:\n\n* `git clone https://github.com/iandunn/compassionate-comments.git`\n* `cd compassionate-comments`\n* `npm install`\n* `npm start`\n\nAfter the initial setup, simply run `npm start` while you're editing files.\n\nTo build the distributed version, run `npm run build`.\n","project_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Fiandunn%2Fcompassionate-comments","html_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/projects/github.com%2Fiandunn%2Fcompassionate-comments","lists_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Fiandunn%2Fcompassionate-comments/lists"}
