[![Gitter](https://badges.gitter.im/Join\\%20Chat.svg)](https://gitter.im/intecture/Lobby)\n\n**Intecture is an API for managing your servers. Visit [intecture.io](http://intecture.io).**\n\n**API docs can be found here: [intecture.io/api/intecture_api/](http://intecture.io/api/intecture_api/).**\n\n---\n\nIntecture's APIs (_cough_ and a binary) are the heart and soul of Intecture. Check out each component's `README.md` for details:\n\n- [core](core/) - The core API that does all the heavy lifting\n- [bindings](bindings/) - Rust FFI and language bindings\n- [proj](proj/) - Helpers and boilerplate for building Intecture projects\n- [agent](agent/) - Tiny daemon that exposes the core API as a service (for your hosts!)\n\n## Getting started\n\nIntecture is pretty light on external dependencies. In fact, all you'll need to [get started is Rust](https://www.rust-lang.org/install.html)!\n\nOnce you've installed Rust, create a new Cargo binary project:\n\n```\ncargo new --bin\n```\n\nNext, add Intecture to your `Cargo.toml`:\n\n```\n[dependencies]\nfutures = \"0.1\"\nintecture_api = {git = \"https://github.com/intecture/api\", version = \"0.4\"}\ntokio-core = \"0.1\"\n```\n\nThis is all we need to do if we only want to manage the local machine. Just make sure you use the `Local` host type, like so:\n\n```rust\n// You can ignore these two lines. They are boilerplate from `tokio-core` that\n// drive Intecture's asynchronous API.\nlet mut core = Core::new().unwrap();\nlet handle = core.handle();\n\nlet host = Local::new(\u0026handle).and_then(|host| {\n    // Do stuff on the local host...\n});\n\n// You can ignore this line. It is more `tokio-core` boilerplate.\ncore.run(host).unwrap();\n```\n\nYou can find some basic examples here: [core/examples](core/examples).\nAlso you should refer to the API docs: [intecture.io/api/intecture_api/](http://intecture.io/api/intecture_api/)\n\n#### For remote hosts only\n\nTo manage a remote machine with Intecture, you need to take a few extra steps. On the remote machine...\n\n[Install Rust](https://www.rust-lang.org/install.html).\n\nClone this GitHub repository:\n\n```\ngit clone https://github.com/intecture/api\n```\n\nBuild the project:\n\n```\ncd api \u0026\u0026 cargo build --release\n```\n\nThen run the agent, specifying an address to bind to:\n\n```\ntarget/release/intecture_agent --address 0.0.0.0:7101\n```\n\nRemember, the agent _must_ be running in order for the API to connect to this host.\n\nFinally we can get back to what we came here for - Rust codez! To manage this machine, make sure you use the `Plain` remote host type, like so:\n\n```rust\nlet host = Plain::connect(\"\u003cip_of_host\u003e:7101\").and_then(|host| {\n    // Do stuff on the remote host...\n});\n```\n\nNote the type is `Plain`, rather than `Remote`. At the moment, **Intecture does no encryption**, making it unsafe for use over insecure networks (i.e. the internet). The type `Plain` signifies this. In the future we will add support for encrypted remote host types as well, but for now, we cannot recommend strongly enough that you only use this on a secure local network.\n\n## What's new?\n\nCheck out [RELEASES.md](RELEASES.md) for details.\n","project_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Fintecture%2Fapi","html_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/projects/github.com%2Fintecture%2Fapi","lists_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Fintecture%2Fapi/lists"}
