Either [Miniconda](https://conda.io/miniconda.html) or [Anaconda](https://repo.continuum.io/) are good.\n\nYou can use the `environment.yml` file included in this repository to create a conda environment identical to the one I used:\n\n```shell\nconda env create --file environment.yml\n```\n\nOtherwise you can create and activate a new conda environment with:\n\n```shell\nconda create --name geopython-2018 python=3.6 --yes\nsource activate geopython-2018\n```\n\nAnd install all the dependencies with:\n\n```shell\n# geoviews (it depends on holoviews)\nconda install -c conda-forge -c ioam holoviews geoviews --yes\n# Additional packages (for the examples in the notebook)\nconda install xarray  -y\nconda install -c conda-forge iris -y\nconda install -c conda-forge iris-sample-data\nconda install -c conda-forge geopandas -y\n```\n\nYou will also need to download the Bokeh sample data:\n\n```\nimport bokeh.sampledata\nbokeh.sampledata.download()\n```\n\nIf you run into issues when importing `geopandas`, try manually downgrading `fiona`:\n\n```\nconda install -c conda forge fiona=1.7.10\n```\n\n\n## Data\n\nIn order to run the notebook you will also need some data files.\n\nHere is where to find the data used in the notebook:\n\n- Shapefiles of Basel districts @ https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/City_of_Basel_Suburb_Import (raw data, not the `.osm` file)\n- Shapefiles of Basel parks and cafes @ https://extract.bbbike.org/\n- netCDF file (Air quality) @ [NOAA](https://www.esrl.noaa.gov/psd/repository/entry/show?entryid=synth%3Ae570c8f9-ec09-4e89-93b4-babd5651e7a9%3AL25jZXAucmVhbmFseXNpcy5kZXJpdmVkL3N1cmZhY2UvYWlyLm1vbi5tZWFuLm5j)\n- Shapefile of American Indian/Alaska Native Areas/Hawaiian Home Lands @ [United States Censun Bureau](https://www.census.gov/geo/maps-data/data/cbf/cbf_aiannh.html)\n\nCreate a `data` directory in the root of the repository and drop the files there.\n\n\n## Generate the slides from the notebook\n\nOpen a terminal and type:\n\n```\njupyter nbconvert Jupyter Notebook.ipynb --to slides --post serve\n```\n\n\n## Other\n\nYou could freeze your environment with:\n\n```shell\nconda env export \u003e environment.yml\n```\n\nTo remove this conda environment, run:\n\n```shell\nconda env remove -n geopython-2018\n```\n","project_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Fjackdbd%2Fgeoviews-geopython-2018","html_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/projects/github.com%2Fjackdbd%2Fgeoviews-geopython-2018","lists_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Fjackdbd%2Fgeoviews-geopython-2018/lists"}
