The result of BMI measurement can give an idea about weather a person has correct weight for\ntheir height.\n\n## How to Calculate BMI?\nBMI calculation is based on simple formula using person's weight and height.\nThe formula for BMI = kg/m2 where kg is person's weight in kilograms and m2 is their height in meters squared. In simplified format it would be\nBMI = (Weight in Kilograms)/(Height in meters * Height in meters)\n\nFor example if person's weight is 68kg and height is 172cm then\nBMI = 68/(1.72*2) = 23\n\nBMI calculator indicate whether person falls under healthy weight, underweight or overweight. If person's BMI is out of healthy range, their health\nrisk may significantly increases.\n\nBMI Range for adults\nBMI : weight status\nBelow 18.5 : Underweight\n18.5 – 24.9 : Normal or Healthy Weight\n25.0 - 29.9 : Overweight\n30.0 \u0026 above: Obese\n\n## Doctors uses BMI too for\nevalution for diet and physical acitivty\ncadiovascular disease and other health related problems\nmeasure fat in body\n\n## Health risks for extra weight\nraises blood pressure and cholesterol and triglyceride levels\nit can make diabetes and other health problems\nhypertension or high blood pressure\ntype 2 diabetes\ncoronary heart disease\ngallbladder disease\nosteoarthritis\nsleep apnea and respiratory problems\n\n## Health risks for under weight\nmalnutrition, anemia or vitamin deficiencies\nosteoporosis from too little vitamin D and calcium\nDecreased Immune System\nfertility issues caused by irregular menstrual cycles\ngrowth and development issues in children and teenagers\n\n## Who shouldn't use a BMI calculator\nBMI should not be used for muscle builders, athletes, pregnant women, the elderly or young children.\nThis is because BMI does not take into account whether the weight is carried as muscle or fat it's just the number. Those with a higher muscle mass, such as athletes, may have a high BMI but not be at greater health risk.
