Download LaTeX:\n   * **Windows:** install [TeX-Live](https://www.tug.org/texlive/) or [MikTeX](https://miktex.org).\n   * **Linux:** install [TeX-Live](https://www.tug.org/texlive/) or [MikTeX](https://miktex.org).\n   * **macOS:** install [MacTeX](https://www.tug.org/mactex/) (a macOS version of [TeX-Live](https://www.tug.org/texlive/)) or [MikTeX](https://miktex.org).\n2. Download “novathesis” by either:\n   * Cloning the [GitHub repository](https://github.com/joaomlourenco/novathesis) with \u003ckbd\u003egit clone --depth=1 https://github.com/joaomlourenco/novathesis.git\u003c/kbd\u003e; or\n   * Downloading the [latest version from the GitHub repository as a Zip file](https://github.com/joaomlourenco/novathesis/archive/main.zip)\n3. Compile the document with you favorite LaTeX processor (pdfLaTeX, XeLaTeX or LuaLaTeX):\n   * The main file is named “*template.tex*”.\n   * Either load it in your favorite [LaTeX text editor](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_TeX_editors) or compile it in the terminal with\n     \u003ckbd\u003elatexmk -shell-escape -file-line-error  -pdf template\u003c/kbd\u003e.  If you use a LaTeX text editor, please notice that the NOVAthesis template uses `biber`and not `bibtex` to process the bibliography, which means that most probably you have to open the _Editor Preferences_ and somewhere (depends on the Editor) change `bibtex`to `biber`.\n   * If Murphy is elsewhere, LaTeX will create the file “`template.pdf`”, which you may open with your favorite PDF viewer.\n4. Select “*template.tex*” as the main file.\n6. Follow from [step 3 above](#with-a-local-latex-installation)\n\n*WARNING: Overleaf reduced the compile time*\nThere is no way you can compile your thesis/dissertation (using this template) within the new (20 seconds) time limit given by the free Oveleaf plan.
