Status](https://travis-ci.org/jstaf/ezldap.svg?branch=master)](https://travis-ci.org/jstaf/ezldap)\n[![Coverage Status](https://coveralls.io/repos/github/jstaf/ezldap/badge.svg?branch=master)](https://coveralls.io/github/jstaf/ezldap?branch=master)\n[![PyPI version](https://badge.fury.io/py/ezldap.svg)](https://badge.fury.io/py/ezldap)\n\nAn object-oriented Python LDAP API and set of bundled scripts to make\ncommon LDAP tasks easier.\n\nAlthough several very comprehensive LDAP API's currently exist (notably\n`python-ldap` and `ldap3`), neither are particularly easy to use and\ngenerally focus more on the specifics of communicating via LDAP rather than\nexposing an easy to use high-level API. This package is designed to do that.\nThe target audience of this package is system administrators and support\nstaff who are on a timeline and just need to add a user or write a quick\nscript in a portable manner.\n\nSo how is `ezldap` different? It is a wrapper around the `ldap3`\nAPI that gives access to easily perform a number of high-level tasks\nlike searching an LDAP directory, adding a user and sending them an\nemail, or resetting someone's password securely. This process is\nstreamlined by a configuration script that autodetects as many LDAP\nconfiguration values as possible and automates future connections to the\ndirectory server. Additionally, additions to an LDAP directory are performed\nusing a set of configurable LDIF templates, making it very quick to\ncustomize the behavior of certain actions (like adding a group). Finally,\nfor most tasks, a command-line interface is provided, for users who just\nwant to get started doing stuff.\n\n**Python example:**\n\n```python\nimport ezldap\n\nwith ezldap.auto_bind() as con:\n    con.add_user('username', 'groupname', 'password')\n```\n\n**Command-line example:**\n\n```bash\n# a password will be automatically generated\nezldap add_user username groupname\n```\n\n## Installation\n\nYou'll need a copy of Python 3.4+.\nNo other dependencies are necessary,\nthough `pandas` is useful for some use cases.\n\n```bash\npip3 install --user git+https://github.com/jstaf/ezldap.git\nezldap config\n```\n\nConfigure your LDAP connection details with `ezldap config` before using the package.\nYou do not need to run this script as root.\nThe connection details/LDIF templates/etc. for `ezldap` are stored in `~/.ezldap`.\nThough you can store your bind password here for convenience,\nI do not recommend doing so, as it will be stored in cleartext.\nYou may wish to configure the LDIF templates under `~/.ezldap`\nas well if you intend to use this package's add object functionality.\n\n## Running tests\n\nTo run the tests, run the following after installation.\nYou will need to have [Docker](https://www.docker.com/community-edition) installed -\nit is used to spawn a test LDAP server to run tests against.\n\n```\npip3 install pytest pytest-cov pytest-docker docker-compose\npytest\n```\n\n## Using this package\n\nFor command-line documentation and usage info,\nrefer to the `ezldap` command's built-in documentation\n(`ezldap -h` and `ezldap command -h`).\nKeep in mind this package is under active development and may not be appropriate for all use cases.\nFunctionality is constantly being added, and the API should not yet be considered stable.\n\nFor further information, check out the [documentation](https://ezldap.readthedocs.io)!\n","project_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Fjstaf%2Fezldap","html_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/projects/github.com%2Fjstaf%2Fezldap","lists_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Fjstaf%2Fezldap/lists"}
