POSTHDF: Post estimation results from HDF5 files\n\n[![GitHub release (latest by date)](https://img.shields.io/github/v/release/junyuan-chen/posthdf)](https://github.com/junyuan-chen/posthdf/releases)\n[![view changelog](https://img.shields.io/badge/view-changelog-informational.svg)](https://github.com/junyuan-chen/posthdf/blob/master/CHANGELOG.md)\n[![stata version](https://img.shields.io/badge/Stata%20version-≥%2016-informational)](https://www.stata.com/)\n[![made-with-python](https://img.shields.io/badge/made%20with-Python-informational.svg)](https://www.python.org/)\n\n`posthdf` is a [Stata](https://www.stata.com/) module\nthat posts scalars, macros and matrices in `e()`\nusing estimation results stored in [HDF5](https://www.hdfgroup.org/solutions/hdf5/) files.\n\n## Why `posthdf`?\n`posthdf` makes it easy to load estimation results\nobtained from any statistical software into Stata\nfor producing tables and plots.\n\n- Use the widely supported [HDF5](https://www.hdfgroup.org/solutions/hdf5/) file format to collect results generated from virtually any tool.\n\n- Load groups of results into Stata with a simple one-line command.\n\n- Access results in Stata with  [`estimates restore`](https://www.stata.com/help.cgi?estimates) and group names.\n\n- Optionally specify and transform coefficient names with flexible customization.\n\n- Streamline the editing process with [`estout`](http://repec.sowi.unibe.ch/stata/estout/index.html)\nand [`coefplot`](http://repec.sowi.unibe.ch/stata/coefplot/index.html).\n\n## Installation\nThe latest release is on the `stable` branch of this repository\nand can be obtained by running the following command in Stata:\n\n    net install posthdf, replace from(https://raw.githubusercontent.com/junyuan-chen/posthdf/stable/)\n\nThe `master` branch contains the latest development\nthat might have not been tagged for release.\n\n**Note:**\nTo check the version of the current installation of `posthdf`,\nrun `which posthdf` in Stata.\n\nSince the functionality relies on Python integration introduced in Stata 16,\na Python installation is required (Python version 3.7 or above is recommended)\nand it needs to be linked to Stata with\n[`python set exec`](https://www.stata.com/help.cgi?python).\n\nThe following Python packages are required:\n- [NumPy](https://numpy.org/)  \n- [h5py](https://www.h5py.org/)\n\nIf you do not already have a Python installation,\na simple way to set up the Python environment\nis to install [Miniconda](https://docs.conda.io/en/latest/miniconda.html),\nwhich provides Python and a package manager called\n[conda](https://docs.conda.io/projects/conda/en/latest/).\n\n## Usage\nOnce estimation results are saved in an HDF5 file,\nposting them in Stata is very simple with `posthdf`.\n\n#### Saving estimation results in an HDF5 file\nAn HDF5 file consists of `groups` and `datasets`.\nEach collection of estimation results should be saved\nin the same HDF5 group with each item being an HDF5 dataset named appropriately.\n\n- An HDF5 `group` is just like a folder.\nResults saved in the same group\nwill be posted in the same collection in Stata\nas if they were generated from an e-class command.\nThe group name will also be used to save the results\nthrough [`estimates store`](https://www.stata.com/help.cgi?estimates).\nA group name that is invalid for being used as a Stata name\nwill be converted automatically.\n\n- An HDF5 `dataset` holds the data as an array.\nEach object such as the coefficient vector,\nthe variance-covariance matrix,\nthe number of observations, etc.,\nshould be saved separately in its own HDF5 dataset.\nThe name of each dataset will be used\nwhen the object is posted as `e(name)` in Stata.\n\n- Certain objects provide special information for\n[`ereturn post`](https://www.stata.com/help.cgi?ereturn).\nIt is best to name the datasets containing these objects\nusing the default values listed in the help file (run `help posthdf` in Stata)\nso that no further specification is needed to inform their locations.\n\n#### Posting the estimation results in Stata\nTo post all the groups of estimation results in Stata, simply run\n\n    posthdf using file_name\n\nEach group of results are now saved under the group name (with any `/` replaced by `_`).\n\nNote that `posthdf` also provides the following features:\n\n- If an array of coefficient names are found,\nthey will be used to specify the column names and row names\nfor coefficient vector `b` and variance-covariance matrix `V`.\n\n- If the coefficient names indicate\nlevels and interactions for [`factor variables`](https://www.stata.com/help.cgi?fvvarlist)\nand [`time-series operators`](https://www.stata.com/help.cgi?tsvarlist)\nsuch as leads and lags,\nthey can be converted into a format that Stata understands\nusing a parser specified by option `parser`.\nUsers can provide their own parsers if desired.\n\nPlease see the help files for details on available options and more examples.\n\n## Contributing\n\nContributors are welcome.\nIf you find any bug or have suggestions for improvement,\nplease open an issue or make a pull request.\n","project_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Fjunyuan-chen%2Fposthdf","html_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/projects/github.com%2Fjunyuan-chen%2Fposthdf","lists_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Fjunyuan-chen%2Fposthdf/lists"}
