panels, to\nbe combined into larger multi-panel charts.  They were developed for\nthe [R/qtlcharts](https://kbroman.org/qtlcharts) package.\n\nNote that d3panels uses\n[D3 version 7](https://github.com/d3/d3/blob/main/API.md).\n(It should also work with version 6.)\n\nThere are other libraries with similar goals that are of more general\nuse (e.g., [C3.js](https://c3js.org)); see\n[this list of javascript chart libraries](https://blog.webkid.io/javascript-chart-libraries/)),\nbut I wanted charts that were a bit _less_ general and flexible, but\nrather more specific to my particular applications (and style).\n\nFor snapshots and live tests, see \u003chttps://kbroman.org/d3panels\u003e.\n\n#### Documentation\n\nFor documentation, see \u003chttps://github.com/kbroman/d3panels/tree/main/doc\u003e.\n\n#### Usage\n\nAll of the functions are called as `d3panels.blah()`.  And for each\nchart, you first call the chart function with a set of options, like\nthis:\n\n```coffeescript\nmychart = d3panels.lodchart({height:600, width:800})\n```\n\nAnd then you call the function that's created with some selection and\nthe data:\n\n```coffeescript\nmychart(d3.select(\"div#chart\"), mydata)\n```\n\nThere are three exceptions to this:\n[`add_lodcurve`](add_lodcurve.md), [`add_curves`](add_curves.md), and [`add_points`](add_points.md).\nFor these functions, you first need to call another function that\ncreates a panel\n(for example, [`lodchart`](lodchart.md) or [`chrpanelframe`](chrpanelframe.md) in\nthe case of [`add_lodcurve`](add_lodcurve.md), or\n[`panelframe`](panelframe.md) in the case of\n[`add_curves`](add_curves.md) or [`add_points`](add_points.md)).  You\nthen use the chart function created by\nthat first call in place of a selection.
