It\nsupports multi stroke recognition and recognition for whole words /\nsentences. It captures characters written in a small window with a pointing\ndevice (mouse, tablet or pen), recognizes them and passes the relating\nkeypress events to the actualy focused window.\nYou can write multi characters at once, but they may not be connected (like\nscript). Single characters are recognized depending on the field you write\nin (lowercase, uppercase or special characters), multiple characters are\nrecognizes as lower case characters .\n\nRosetta has been developed on Linux systems, (i386 and StrongARM), but\nshould be quite portable to any reasonable system with X. Rosetta still is\nexperimental.\n\nMany of the ideas that have gone into the development of Rosetta are derived\nfrom xmerlin, written by Stefan Hellkvist. To His Ideas I added the multi\nstroke support and some more classification functions, resulting in Rosetta. \n\nWhat does rosetta depend on?\n----------------------------\nTo compile rosetta you will need:\n\tX\n\tA C compiler\n\nTo compile the rosetta learning application you'll also need GTK 2.x and the\nGPE build framework (e.g. libgpewidget)\n\nCompiling rosetta\n-----------------\nIf you would like to compile rosetta, simply edit the Makefile to\npoint to correct locations for X and GPE and the type make. (Yes, this is\na primitive build environment -- something fancy like autoconf perhaps will \ncome in a future release).\n\nTo install, simply type \n\nmake install\n\nUsing rosetta\n-------------\n\nThe rosetta package consists of two applications. rosetta itself and the\nrosetta leaning application.\n\nRunning rosetta the first time will result in a long startup time. There\nwill be done some precalculations which will be saved in\n\n/usr/local/share/rosetta/rosetta.pc\n\nRosetta will be installed together with a standard config file for german\nand english characters. The config file is located in \n\n/etc/rosetta.conf\n\nRosetta neets a database of known strokes. The one shipped with rosetta\ncontains my handwriting. You could create your own by starting the learning\napplication, klick on the \"learn\" button and then write character by\ncharacter all characters shown in the \"Name\" field. Every character can\ncontain of one or more strokes. After closing the\nlearning application your own database is saved.\n\nThe global database is located at:\n\n/usr/local/share/rosetta/rosetta.db\n\nThe user database is located at:\n\n~/.rosetta/rosetta.db\n\nAfter starting rosetta itself you'll get a small input window. With\nmbdesktop it will be integrated as new input method. The input window is\nseperated into three fields.\n\nField \"abc\" is dedicated to lower case characters / numbers and some\ninterpunctation characters.\n\nField \"ABC\" is dedicated to upper case characters and also numbers and some\ninterpunctation characters.\n\nField \"Symbol\" is dedicated to all other characters and special function\nkeys (eg. cursor keys, function keys etc.)\n\nIf you write only one character the field you write in will be respected. If\nyou write more than one character all characters will be assumed to be lower\ncharacters / numbers or some of the interpunctation characters (same as if\nyou wrote in \"abc\" field). All characters have to be seperated from each\nother, so you may not write script but \"printed characters\".\n\nIf you write more than one word rosetta will try to find out the word\nseperation.\n\nThe german \"umlaute\" (e.g. ) wont have their own representation in the\ndatabase. They will be matched by the number of \"dots\" you wrote on top of\nthe character. This is configurable in the config file.\n\nIn the learning application you can overwrite each character by hand or\nlearn the whole configured alphabet. To overwrite a single character simply\nnavigate to the character and then write the new one. To train the whole\nalphabet navigate to the first alphabet and press the learn button. Now\nwrite every character as shown in the \"name\" label. As configured in the\nconfig file every character is repeatet several times in the database to get\nbetter results in the recognition.\n\nAutomatic learning is stopped by navigation in the database or by changing\nto the testmode.\n\nIn testmode (Test tab) you can write characters and words an will see the\nresult in the input box.\n\nWell, that's about it. Feel free to send me comments, suggestions, or\nbug fixes.\n\n-Ole Reinhardt \u003cole.reinhardt@kernelconcepts.de\u003e\n","project_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Fkernelconcepts%2Frosetta","html_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/projects/github.com%2Fkernelconcepts%2Frosetta","lists_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Fkernelconcepts%2Frosetta/lists"}
