Most current smokers\r\nwould like to quit, but the addictive nature of cigarettes makes\r\nquitting difficult. Research has shown that the success of a\r\nquit attempt increases greatly with third party intervention,\r\nhowever intervention methods rely on a smoking-cessation\r\nreporting mechanism, and evidence indicates that smokers\r\nare unreliable at self-reporting.\r\n\r\nTo solve this problem, we have created Monoxalyze, a keychain-\r\nsized smoking-cessation verification device. Monoxalyze is a\r\nBluetooth Low Energy (BLE) carbon monoxide breathalyzer\r\nthat pairs with a smartphone to track whether smokers have\r\nquit—or not. Monoxalyze identifies the user through facial recognition\r\non the smartphone, and Monalyze authenticates the Monoxalyze device\r\nthrough visible light authentication between LEDs on the front of the Monoxalyze\r\ndevice and the smartphone's camera.
