kubespin\n\n**kubespin** is a very simple tool for easily generating Spinnaker Pipeline Definitions from a manifest file. This is particularly useful if your app is made up by many modules that follows a very similar flow from Development to Production environments.\n\n## Requirements\n\n- Python 3.8+\n- jsonnet (Tested with https://github.com/google/jsonnet)\n\n## Development\n\nAfter you clone the repository, run the following command in kubespin root path:\n\n```bash\npython setup.py develop\n```\n\nYou are ready to go!\n\n## Running examples\n\nThe `examples/` path contains some examples on how to take advantage of `kubespin` and `jsonnet`. To try it, run:\n\n```bash\ncd examples/\nkubespin myapps.json -t ./templates/\n```\n\n## The Manifest file\n\nThe manifest file is a json file that holds a declaration for your app modules and pipelines.\n\n### Modules\n\nA module is a concept directly mapped to [Spinnaker's application concept](https://spinnaker.io/guides/user/applications/). It holds a piece of your application (a microservice, for instance):\n\n```json\n...\n\"modules\": [\n        {\n            \"name\": \"demo-module\",\n            \"contact\": \"someone@email.com\",\n            \"description\": \"A module for demo\",\n            \"properties\": {\n                \"serviceName\": \"demo-svc\",\n                \"docker\": \"demo-image\",\n                \"helm\": \"demo-chart\"\n            }\n        }\n    ],\n...\n```\n\nA module is basically described by its name, a contact for a person responsible for it and a brief description of what it does. You can also rely on `properties` to store `key-value` pairs that will be available in your jsonnet template.\n\n### Pipelines\n\nPipelines describe actual pipelines that will be applied to all your modules:\n\n```json\n...\n\n\"pipelines\": [\n        {\n            \"type\": \"deploy\",\n            \"namespace\": \"qa\",\n            \"properties\": {\n                \"account\": \"spinnaker-qa-account\"\n            }\n        }\n    ]\n\n...\n```\n\nIt is basically described by a `type` and `namespace` attributes. The `type` holds, in simple terms, the name of the template used to render the pipeline. The `namespace` attribute refers to kubernetes namespace that the pipeline refers to (a deployment to a dev namespace, for instance). The namespace itself can be used to define other types of namespaces, such as AWS Resource Groups.\n\n### The templates\n\n**kubespin** looks for templates in the following structure:\n\n```\n./\n├── applications/\n│   ├── default\n│   │   ├── app.jsonnet\n└── pipelines/\n    ├── default\n    │   ├── \u003ctype\u003e.jsonnet\n    ├── custom_templates\n    │   ├── \u003ctype\u003e.jsonnet\n```\n\nThe `applications` folder holds templates for Spinnaker app itself, while the `pipelines` folder holds for Spinnaker pipelines.\n\nThe `default` template group can be changed at the module level by adding a `template` attribute:\n\n```json\n...\n\"modules\": [\n        {\n            \"name\": \"demo-module\",\n            \"contact\": \"someone@email.com\",\n            \"description\": \"A module for demo\",\n            \"template\": \"custom_templates\",\n            \"properties\": {\n                \"serviceName\": \"demo-svc\",\n                \"docker\": \"demo-image\",\n                \"helm\": \"demo-chart\"\n            }\n        }\n    ],\n...\n```\n\nThis way, instead of looking for templates in `default` folder, **kubespin** will look for templates in the `custom_templates` folder for the module.\n\n#### Context\n\nWhen rendering the template, the jsonnet will receive a `module` parameter for applications and pipelines and a `pipeline` parameter for pipelines only. This contains the same json defined in the manifest for the module x pipeline being rendered:\n\n```jsonnet\nlocal module = std.extVar('module');\nlocal pipeline = std.extVar('pipeline');\n\n...\n\nlocal moniker = sponnet.moniker(module.name);\nlocal namespace = pipeline.namespace;\n\n# Docker image \nlocal dockerArtifact = sponnet.artifacts\n    .dockerImage()\n    .withName('docker.io/' + module.properties.docker)\n    .withReference('docker.io/' + module.properties.docker)\n    .withArtifactAccount('docker-registry');\n...\n\n```\n","project_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Flersouza%2Fkubespin","html_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/projects/github.com%2Flersouza%2Fkubespin","lists_url":"https://awesome.ecosyste.ms/api/v1/projects/github.com%2Flersouza%2Fkubespin/lists"}
