2.1\n\n## Introduction\n\nThis example includes a Hybrid Electric Vehicle model\nin Simscape\u0026trade;,\ndemonstrating some new features of the recent releases\nof MATLAB\u0026reg;\nand featuring Subsystem Reference which enables\nmodular physical modeling workflow.\n\nThe model includes\nan abstract Power-Split Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) model\nwith a simple rule-based controller\nfor speed tracking simulation.\nIt can be used to better understand\nhow to work with [Subsystem Reference][url_subref]\nfor an automotive application.\nFor a vehicle model that includes\nmore detailed supervisory and engine controllers,\nplease see the reference applications in\n[Powertrain included abstract model is suitable\nfor the system level simulation of\nlongitudinal vehicle behavior\nas it runs faster than real time.\nThe model consists of components such as motor, engine,\npower-split device, and so on,\nand they are built in a modular manner using\nSubsystem Reference and Simscape product family\ndemonstrating a workflow where\nphysical components are built and tested individually\nand also they can be easily integrated into\na complete vehicle system model.\n\nThe HEV model and its component files are managed\nby a MATLAB project and\nsome components
