FFmpeg bundled.\n\n## Installation\n\nDownload the latest release for your platform from the [Releases](https://github.com/michael-borck/debrief/releases) page.\n\n## Development\n\n### Prerequisites\n\n- Node.js 20+\n- npm or yarn\n- (Optional) Speaches service running on http://localhost:8000\n- (Optional) Ollama service running on http://localhost:11434\n\n### Setup\n\n```bash\n# Clone the repository\ngit clone https://github.com/michael-borck/debrief.git\ncd debrief\n\n# Install dependencies\nnpm install\n\n# Start development server\nnpm start\n\n# Build for production\nnpm run dist\n```\n\n## Release Process\n\n### GitHub Secrets Required\n\nTo enable automatic builds when you create a release tag, set up these GitHub secrets:\n\n1. **For macOS Code Signing (Optional)**:\n   - `MAC_CERTS`: Base64 encoded .p12 certificate\n   - `MAC_CERTS_PASSWORD`: Certificate password\n   - `APPLE_ID`: Your Apple ID\n   - `APPLE_ID_PASS`: App-specific password\n   - `APPLE_TEAM_ID`: Your Apple Developer Team ID\n\n2. **Automatic (Already exists)**:\n   - `GITHUB_TOKEN`: Automatically provided by GitHub Actions\n\n### Local pre-tag smoke test (recommended)\n\n**Do this before every release tag.** `npm start` only exercises the dev runtime; it doesn't catch hardened-runtime, code-signing, or sidecar-spawn-from-packaged-app bugs (we shipped three of those in a row — v1.8.0/.1/.2 — for not doing this).\n\n```bash\n# Builds the .app under release/mac-arm64/, signed with hardened\n# runtime if a Developer ID cert is in your Keychain. Skips dmg\n# packaging and notarization (NOTARIZE_APPLE_* not set locally).\nnpm run pack\n\n# Launch the packed .app — same hardened-runtime conditions as the\n# eventual dmg, but no notarization round-trip.\nopen release/mac-arm64/Debrief.app\n\n# Watch the sidecar logs while it boots:\ntail -f ~/Library/Application\\ Support/debrief/logs/setup.log\n```\n\nIf the packed app starts cleanly and you can transcribe a short clip end-to-end, then you can tag with confidence. If it fails, you'll see the actual subprocess error in `setup.log` (a real traceback, not just `exit 1`).\n\nIf `npm start` was your only test, **delete the dev userData dir before testing the packed app** to make sure the packed app's first-launch path actually runs:\n\n```bash\nrm -rf ~/Library/Application\\ Support/debrief/venv\n```\n\n(`audio-scribe.db` stays — only the Python env gets rebuilt, ~3-10 min one-time.)\n\n### Creating a Release\n\n1. Do the local pre-tag smoke test above.\n2. Update version in `package.json`\n3. Commit changes: `git commit -am \"Bump version to v1.0.0\"`\n4. Create tag: `git tag v1.0.0`\n5. Push tag: `git push origin v1.0.0`\n6. GitHub Actions will automatically build for all platforms\n7.
