deprecated in favor of https://github.com/Mitranim/gow since Go 1.11.\n\n## Overview\n\nMinimal CLI tool for Go development. Can:\n\n * run an entire Go package with a single command, without `go build`\n * optionally watch and rerun on file changes\n\nWorks on MacOS, should work on Linux. Pull requests for Windows are welcome.\n\n## Why\n\n * one command to build and run\n * easy to remember\n * can watch and rerun\n\nThe Go team has rejected multiple proposals to add directory support to `go run`: [[1]](https://github.com/golang/go/issues/5164)[[2]](https://github.com/golang/go/issues/20432). One has finally been accepted: [[3]](https://github.com/golang/go/issues/22726), but is not part of a stable Go release at the time of writing.\n\n### Why not existing runners\n\nExisting runners, like [`realize`](https://github.com/oxequa/realize), tend to:\n\n * have an **earth-shattering** amount of bells and whistles\n * have verbose logging you can't disable\n * have unnecessary delays in the file watcher\n * use CPU constantly\n * require config files\n * put garbage in the working directory\n * mess with file paths in error reports\n * have thousands of lines of code, so you can't fix them yourself\n\n`gorun` doesn't.\n\n## Installation\n\n```sh\ngo get -u github.com/Mitranim/gorun\n```\n\nThis will automatically compile the executable. Make sure `$GOPATH/bin` is in your `$PATH` so the shell can discover it. For example, my `~/.profile` contains this:\n\n```sh\nexport GOPATH=~/go\nexport PATH=$PATH:$GOPATH/bin\n```\n\n## Usage\n\n```sh\n# Run current directory\ngorun .\n\n# Run subdirectory\ngorun ./src/go\n\n# Specify process name\ngorun -n=my-app .\n\n# Watch and rerun\ngorun -w .\n\n# Any additional arguments are passed to the program\ngorun . arg0 arg1 arg2 ...\n\n# Usage info\ngorun -h\n```\n\n## Changelog\n\n### 2018-06-28\n\nNow ignores non-`.go` files when watching, regardless of the watch pattern.\n\n### 2018-06-15\n\nNow uses `go install` when possible, falling back on `go build`.\n\nWhen `gorun` uses `go build` and is stopped with `^C` or by closing a terminal tab, it immediately deletes its temporary directory with the binary.\n\nAfter updating `gorun`, delete any leftover directories:\n\n find $TMPDIR -name \"gorun-*\" -delete\n\nVerbose log now includes build duration.\n\n## TODO\n\nConsider stopping the child process with `SIGINT` to allow cleanup; don't forget a timeout.\n\n## Alternatives\n\nFor general purpose file watching, consider these excellent tools:\n\n * https://github.com/emcrisostomo/fswatch\n * https://github.com/mattgreen/watchexec\n\nDifferences:\n\n * `gorun` builds and runs a Go directory, which can be fiddly and awkward otherwise.\n * Most general-purpose watchers don't support killing and restarting the child process; `watchexec` is one of the few exceptions.\n * For Go, remembering how to invoke `gorun` is much easier.\n\n## License\n\nhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WTFPL\n\n## Misc\n\nI'm receptive to suggestions.
